Hey guys, whats the deal with the air suspension on a 06 D3 HSE when its parked. Are the meant to sit even lower than normal drive position when they are parked up. I had a salesman tell me that they do this.
However the car I'm away to pick up from a garage on Sat didn't strike me as sitting low when parked up. Do they take time to lower, eg if they have just been moved they may still sit high for a while?
Just checking it does what its meant to do before I drive it away.
Thanks In advance.

They'll self level, but other than that, if they're sinking overnight, then there's a leak somewhere. Bodsys Brake Bible

The salesman could be referring to access height, used to get easier access to the car when parked...

Mine was out of action for a week, when I started it again for the first time the suspension rose to normal height; other than that, yes it does tend to self level when parked but doesn't sink dramatically.

Ah cool,
The first car I went to look at in a LR garage was sitting low, in fact so was most the other D3's sitting next to it. All about the same.
Then I went to another garage where I can't recall the D3 I looked at (which I pick up on sat) sitting that low. Heres the pic:

Basically, it will self-level to the level that the suspension is set when you stop. When you get out of the vehicle it will rise slightly. The self-levelling will then release enough air to bring it back down to original level.
If parked for a long period it may sink slightly as the valves are unlikely to be completely airtight. How much seepage is acceptable is debatable. In the showroom the cars may have been parked for a long time so they could be lower than cars in regular use.

Maybe the garage parks the cars indoors with a low ceiling so lowers them all to access height. Would explain why all of them are sitting low.

LRE centres are trained to always lower their vehicles to access height for the customer - guess it's as a way to show the option.
I believe my local dealership also does this in the showroom even though it's got a high roof. My guess would be they are doing this rather than any problems or self-levelling

I always lower mine to access height when getting out and leaving it, just habit now. Even at access height mne tends to drop a little bit to level itself out, bit disconcerting when it first happens and you don't expect it to do so.
cheers and enjoy the D3! Alex
