Park Distance Control on Auto - Fixed

I was checking up on Land Rover GTR last night, and among many new documents and service bulletins relating many of the issues on D3/LR3 I found one of particular interest. The well known problem of intermittent PDC on automantic transmission cars has been rectified.

The software has been updated to ignore the 'wheels stop' parameter. This means that it will activate when drive away park brake release occurs.

The repair involves changing the PDC ECU which is situated in the rear side panel.

The Bulletin is for action "On customer complaint of intermitent PDC only" in other words, if you say nothing they won't fix it as a matter of course.

The Bulletin is number No.LA413-001 issued on the 4th July 2005. The part number for the new PDC ECU is YWC500313 and the job is rated at 30 minutes.

There is also a major bulletin regarding the Infotainment system, there is a considerable update which covers lots of issues we have mentioned with the stereo/navigation/voice system. This seems to be quite a complicated and very time consuming update.

also... this intermittent problem affects manuals too when going into reverse gear... sometimes works, sometimes you have to wait a few seconds before it kicks in and sometimes it fails to activate.

Yep I would agree with that.....

Mine still doesn't work properly (it rarely activates when put into reverse) and the dealers blamed it on the towbar electrics not having a relay (which should work the fridge in a caravan) in them.

After putting the relay in the car the PDC still doesn't work properly Sad

Does this fix solve the manual problem as well?? Bearing in mind that the problem isn't related to the park brake being active (in my case anyway).

I have just had my TDV6 auto in for its first service and took the info from this forum into them. They had not heard of the problem but did get the bulletin from the Land Rover site. They have ordered a new ECU and will fit it when it arrives. Just goes to show that this site works around the world...

It is a software issue - I had a major set-to with LR over this, and my car spent some time at the factory having a solution worked on, hence the software patch available. Result is that the front PDC now activates as soon as you select gear (in auto box) an switches off at approx 10mph, then comes back on as speed drops. Thsi means that when starting off from a parking space you can actually use your pdc to assist in exiting the parking space, rather than having to move forward, come to a stop & then start off again Very Happy
