I suppose it could be a local problem, but I doubt it. I am certain its occured recently, because I washed and waxed the D3 before christmas and it was not there then. I have been all over the country since.

I am hoping to arrange some work near to you Ken, I'll pm you when I get the order, I might know something by the end of next week. Thumbs Up

I would have said it is fallout. I see a lot of this when a car is parked near a train station. Trains brake and the 'loose' mini particles are thrown up into the air which are hot. Almost like a mini cloud of hot dust. This settles on the paint leaving a contaminent like you see there. If parked on a busy road you can get this from trucks if they also brake near you on a regular basis. Is it only on the sides? or also on top of the car?

If only on the sides then it's ain't fallout and likely something that has been picked up onto the car.

Take up Ken's offer as there are a lot of products that would make short work of the markings, but are not available to the public. Good stuff but nasty sh!t

And although there is life beyond claybars, they are very good. Sonus green is what you want, but a D3 is a BIG car to claybar.

It's certainly not a problem confined to your area Gareth, I noticed these (to a lesser extent) on mine when it was about 6 mths old, and was also alarmed that it could be rust showing through the paint, but when I found these deposits on the alloy tailgates as well as the steel bits, I realised it must be something else, and came to the same conclusion, that it must be mine or other vehicles brake particles. I'd also be interested to know an easier way to shift it.

Re: Paintwork problems

Hi Gareth

I have had exact same on mine I thought it was rust. Then I thought it had been close to someone who was welding. I used clay bar and wax to remove mine takes ages though.

I reckon a fair portion of D3s have this problem it seems to be more common on Silver as it is easier to spot.

Clay bar the car every 6 months and use a good polish as well as washing the car, minimum once a week and you won't get these marks.

Minimum once a week Shocked

It's a car, not an ornament! Don't you have a wife to give you manly DIY tasks? Now I like to give mine a damn good clean every now and then and have been known to wipe it lovingly with waxes taken from the ears of rare mammals but weekly?

A monthly jetwash and going over with wash and wax followed by a claying/waxing every 4 months or so is about all I can muster the enthusiasm for. That seems enough to lift the fallout similar to that shown here without any major effort on my part. As Ken and JKP said though, with that much on your car let the pros do it with the right chemicals and you can spend your time enjoying life, not smelling of Meguiars quick detail and claybar.
