P0490 code

Attention the experts

My TDV6, MY08 with 40k miles has a P0490 code and engine light. There is no noticeable black smoke and the power is not noticeably reduced. If I clear the code it sometimes stays clear for a while and sometimes comes back immediately.

Can anyone help? What is the likely cause and is it left or right EGR? If it could be either how do I work out which one?

If I was to fit EGR blanking would the car go into reduced power mode, bearing in mind that it is a MY08 and therefore EU4.

Blanking a Euro4 will result in the car complaining

Your code is the EGR's - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit High but as to what one it is ....

Looks like the EGR valve is either stuck shut or open.

Warranty ended in June. I have Luxurycare from Warranty Direct (non LR dealer though) and they are being a little difficult. They want the garage to remove the egr (which one though??) and tell them what is wrong with it before they will commit to pay. If that is Luxurycare what do you get at the lower levels?

Watch this space.

If anyone can help me help the garage choose which side to start with, please...
