An owl type noise !!
This is another strange noise type question. I have noticed that when reducing speed and dropping from 3rd downwards there is a odd noise, my daughter hit the nail on the head by describing it as a low pitch owl hooting. I know that will raise a few eyebrows but it does sound like wo wo wo wo wo in a fast circular motion, it is more noticable if driving inbetween parked cars down a street as that situation seems to amplify it. I have also noticed that by pressing the clutch it vanishes - so - im thinking clutch release bearing ? The gear changing is smooth and quiet even when cold and its got 72k on the clock - the last 20k by me and no towing but cant vouch for its first owner. By any remote chance has anyone come across anything similar (and there is no owl or stoat etc trapped in the grille (i have looked, lol)). Its an 05 TDV6 HSE manual. Any help appreciated.

Wheel bearing on the way out would be my guess. My front left got replaced at 40k, was like a wocka wocka noise til I could feel it through the steering wheel. Was worse going round roundabouts.

It could be the wheel bearings, they do fail occasionally. Before spending money on them, it might be worth swapping tyres rear to front. The tyres can also make odd noises when getting worn.

Got the use of a lift, checked all 4 wheels and no play or noise when rotated so I dont think its the bearings. The tyre tread is good on all 4, done about 10k on a full new set. There is slight wear on the inner edges of the front but had alignment done and it was ok - dealer says it will wear like this and to be honest its only a very small amount. There is no wandering etc when breaking either - so - still got my owl and wocka to contend with. clutch bearing !!!!!?

Doesn't TFC have an HSE manual I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.
