Outdoor temp gauge also for base models?!
I've got my little big one two weeks ago and it is still an excitement to 'step in' and drive it!
The only weak point so far is the missing gauge for the outdoor temperature! In CH this feature is only contained in the option 'board computer', that you can not have for the 'S' version!
I've asked my dealer to look after an alternative and HE HAS GOT ONE!
LR CH offers a retrofit kit, that will display the temperature on the car hi-fi display!
Honestly, it's a robbery: more than EUR 300.- for a quite common detail in
every other car but it's a need... Maybe someone has heard about other solutions omitting every 'do-it-yourself' windscreen sticker model [/i]...this is an Italian, living in Switzerland, trying to speak English...!

Your're perfectly right my friend, basic 'S' version is really 'poor'...
But, believe me: Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. Whaddayathink?

It's done
My dealer has mounted/adapted the RDS kit (see also http://www.conrad.de/Auto/rds_digital_thermometer-36.sap ) and it works!
BENEFITS:
- 'invisible' retrofit (display over standard radio)
- cheap enough
- additional red LED informs about outside temps under +4°C, even if radio is off
WEAK POINTS
- either RADIO or TEMP
- the transmission of data is hearable (a little fizzling on the loudspeakers depending on volume setting)
- IN and OUT temp alternate in a fixed cycle
- IN temp is after an hour driving more a 'device' temp (approx 27-31°C )
- red LED should have been BLUE in my eyes
Cheers...this is an Italian, living in Switzerland, trying to speak English...!

The 'S' spec in CH will likely not be the same as the UK 'S' spec.

Ah, but an S model is one step above Base, isn't it?

Of course
But some regions are specced 'S' but are actually base spec according to what we have in the UK.
And to add to the confusion, there are many miss-badged 1st model year D3's around - there was an SE at our daughters school that was the same spec as mine - no leather, no sat nav, 'S' wheels. Only difference was it had a 'E' badge next to the 'S'.

In Greece the S spec is the base model. There are four variations with/without air-suspension & manual or auto
the Plus for the S is the 17" wheels and the great choice of tyres for the 17" (compared to the 18" or even 19")
