£866 seems Censored steep for a service plus pads and 2 discs. what so special about a 30k service to get to that price Question

A little courtesy call to say "by the way we found a, b and c wrong and it could/will cost £XXX" would have given you time to think about it and maybe question the warranty issue or even get on here to compare notes.

Whether it be right or wrong price/go elsewhere for the additional work etc - to have a say in the matter would have been respectful in my opinion.

You guys are being ripped off. I just had a 30,000 mile service carried out at a dealer here in Germany (No new brake discs required) and it cost me £260.00 and not a penny more Mr. Green

Lakeland £30k service under £300. ARB bushes done under warranty too. Razz

Brakes done by Greenbank 4x4 (Aberdeen) or Mann Automotive (Laurencekirk) for under £200.

I now know from these sort of pices (and couple of hundred more) from my D2 to have a price from a good local Indi LR garage lined up for brake pads & disks.

Also saw an add on TV for Kwik Fit, pads replacement free for as long as you own the car. Me did wonder if they would be quite hard wearing pads and you end up replacig disks instead. Confused Confused

I had the 30K service done on my S (5 days later i decided to buy an HSE Rolling Eyes ) hunters in southampton charged about 350 for the service and called me to advise that discs and pads would need doing before the next service at circa 300 - I decided that if they did - i would either do them or get them done elsewhere - original LR pads and discs seem very resonable priced if you buy parts only - its the labour thats the killer. I would have been Censored angry if they had done the work without my agreement. This way i felt i had been given a choice and the service (as opposed to the 30k service) was so good (courtesy FL2, lots of pre calls and post calls) that i had no hesitation trading up a week later!!

It's a well known trick of the trade to say that you pads & discs are 'worn'. They rely on you being safety conscious and deciding that it will be a reasonable thing to do whilst the car is in the garage anyway. The truth is that they are not lying as these items are always 'worn' from the first push of the pedal.

Genuine LR pads are ITRO £35-50 (complete front or rear). As has been said, it's the stealer labour charge and the menu style of 'time to complete the job' that kills it.

I think the problem is that the LR time for the job is based on taking a car in just for that procedure. When the car is in for a service and is already on the ramps with the wheels off it doesn't take anywhere near that time to do it, but you get charged for the whole thing all the same. They did call me to get permission to carry out the brake work. I have accepted that T&C are expensive but feel that whilst the car is under warranty then it should be looked after by the main dealer. The 30K service was just over £466.00 inc vat. The brake work was £397.00 inc vat. Labour for the brake work was £249.00 inc vat!

At the end of the day it often costs too much time and effort to chase down the costs Embarassed Also getting a courtesy car for the duration is also worth something to me..... (Freelander 2 HSE)

I kept an eye on the front disc condition and unfortunately they were worn significantly. Rear was fine and T&C to their credit said that the pads were only 75% worn.... not doing them now would have been pointless so agreed for them to renew them to.

Given that the front pads were 95% worn (not witnessed) I was surprised that there weren't any warning lights.

i saved a few quid then when they replaced the entire rear brake assemblies when the EPB failed. Wonder if I can get them to do the fronts as well?
