Osram Night Breakers
I only have the basic halogen lights on the D3 and to be honest they are not as good as our Saab with the Halfords 50%+ bulbs in. I tried one of the 50%+ bulbs in the D3 and you can instantly see the light is brighter and much whiter.

Should be here tomorrow, assuming I get to work to collect them I'll let you know. Bought them from www.startlerabbit.com for £29.95 inc postage for the H7 dipped beam.

Got the bulbs this morning and you can instantly see the difference, even during the day. The light is much whiter and brighter. It won't be until tonight that I really see the difference.

UPDATE
Well the bulbs are amazing for such a simple upgrade, the light is much much brighter and whiter. The beam length and width is vastly improved. To be honest I was thinking of a Xenon upgrade, but now it isn't needed. Well worth the £30 they cost.

Do they run any hotter than std bulbs countrywide ?.......ie, are they likely to cause meltdown of headlamp assy?

I am not sure about the heat, but they road legal and designed for plastic lenses. I haven't noticed any smoke yet . As the wattage is the same as a normal bulb and there is more light, I would assume they run cooler as more energy is turned into light, but it is a guess as I was asleep during most of my physics lessons at school. They do have a glass envelope rather than quartz to block the UV and prevent them destroying the plastic lense.
I have used the +50% and Silverstars in other cars with plastic lenses and not had any problems.

Philips X-treme power have a similar spec to the Orams, 90% brighter etc. I fitted them as high beam lights at the same time as I upgraded to Xenons so find it difficult to make a straight comparison betwwen std fit halogens and the upgraded halogens. Have to say that the Xenons plus the +90% bulbs certainly make instant daylight on high beam.
Believe the Philips X-trme were Auto Express accessory of the year.
P.S. No problem with heat / melting plastic etc.

I've just replaced my main beam H7s with Philips X-Treme (got them from a Polish EBay seller for £24.95 inc postage). I've also replaced the H1s in my LR driving lamps with Osram Night Breaker H1s (also from EBay). The difference is amazing and well worth the £46 or so spent. Together with the replacement side light mini tower LEDS from UltraLEDS the front's sorted!

I recently bought the Halfrauds 50%+ and was quite impressed - however, I then became aware of the Nightbreakes and bought a pair of them (got a friend in the business, so only paid £18.50 for the pair - cheaper by £1.50 than the Halfrauds ones!!) So, I fitted one and turned on the headlights....and could not see ANY difference between the Osram Nightbreaker and the Halfrauds bulb, in terms of brightness or whiteness.
To say I was disappointed is an understatement. They are quite close in colour to the genuine Bi Xenon which I have fitted, but you can still see a difference.
Still, I stuck the Halfrauds ones in my wifes car and cursed.
I am waiting for the H11s Nightbreakes to come in, to put in the fog lights, because they look really yellow in comparison, on standard bulbs. I know the Nightbreakes will make a difference there.D4 SDV6 HSE
