Opening the Rear Doors from the Inside - Is this normal?

I've had the car for 3 years now, but discovered a new "feature" last night.

I'd given a couple of people a lift home. They were in the back seats. When we go to their house, it was only the back seat passengers that needed to get out.

The automatic lock the doors when moving is turned on, so the car had locked itself when we started driving.

When they pulled on the door catch lever nothing happened, the door didn't unlock. They had to operate the lock manually but that only unlocked the individual door, not the whole car.

Is this normal?

To open either front door from the inside, you just pull the handle and the whole car unlocks. The back doors lock and unlock normally with the central locking and from the switch on the front door. The child locks are not set. Do other D4's do this or is something wrong with mine?

The D3's also do this. They only unlock when you remove the key or press the unlock button Thumbs Up

I've been wondering about this as well. I tried it with the child lock on and off. Is there anyway of disabling this feature as its a right pain as there's no children so no need for it!

I see the benefits, but it's a pain in the a Censored e, too. I'm forever forgetting to press the unlock button when hopping out with the key in the ignition (e.g. to put something in the bin) only to find the doors and boot locked. Evil or Very Mad

On a D3 it's just a setting in the instrument panel and can be disabled

Does nobody read manuals these days Laughing

Yeah it's a nice reassuring feature when you pull away, that if someone tried to get in when your stationary they'd be unsuccessful, but when you pull up and a rear passenger wants to get out they try and I then have to pull my handle to release the door locks. It's fine for both driver and front seat passenger, but I wish if I rear seat passenger pulled the interior handle it would also unlock all the doors. It's quite frustrating.

My fathers 2003 FFRR doesn't do it, ok it doesn't have drive away locking but still.

Why do you have to pull your door release when there is an unlock button?

It does the same job doesn't it? Plus my hand just automatically goes for it rather than the lock/unlock button i rarely touch.

Yes Jon, you can change the setting in the Setup Menu! The child locks will override whatever setting you have in the menu Thumbs Up

What setting in the menu is that? I still want the drive away locking feature on though. I don't suppose it can be configured in the ccf files

The drive away locking is a setting in the menu but that's not the problem. The problem is the back seat passengers not being able to open the doors themselves until a front seat passenger unlocks them. It's not the child locks either.

[The back seat passenger can actually unlock the door using the separate lock button but they don't realise that and just keep pulling the lever wondering why nothing is happening]

Yeah, is there any way you can set it so that a rear seat passenger can unlock all the doors and preferably just by pulling the handle?
