An Open Letter to Mr McAllister and Mr Kinnairds |
|
An open letter to:
Mr Ian McAllister, Chairman of Ford
and
Mr Peter Kinnairds Land Rover
I would like some answers now
I am a patient person, as some of your senior people know and extremely loyal to Land Rover over the years a brand that you have now completely destroyed in the Discovery 3.
The Discovery 3 is an outstanding vehicle with huge potential, let down by constant defects apparently caused in the main by poor wiring and the on board computer system. There are other faults, but these are the serious ones.
I have attempted to be a moderate but factual person on this forum. I have often dissuaded people from publishing too many errors in an attempt to get the vehicles repaired and keep the credibility of the vehicle, whilst trying to liaise with you.
I now think I was wrong in this action. Maybe I should have realised that after the P38 problems, the Discovery 3 would be different, but I took the chance and it appears I was wrong.
Ford, please read my report, the first six months with a Discovery 3.

I now want some straight answers from you. I am aware that certain very responsible people in Ford (Land Rover) read this forum and may consider naming you if I do not get some answers quickly and I think I speak for many people with Discovery 3’s. I would add that this site was never intended to be a witch hunter, but a minor problem solver and social common interest medium, but maybe now is the time to put into the public domain some facts, starting with a few minor ones. More may be revealed later if I do not receive answers to this letter.
Why constantly lie about problems with the vehicle.
Why admit eventually that the compressors did have a defect consisting of dirt in them at manufacture, but until challenged by an international enthusiasts magazine and this site, deny it before, then finally admit the problem.
That was a blatant lie Ford
Why deny that you have wiring problems when you clearly have. Why did a dealer back out of a minor adventure trip because they thought the vehicle may embarrass them and break down on route, due to common suspension problems. Do even the dealers know something we don’t, but should?
Own up Ford now.
Why deny that even such things as an uncomfortable seat complaint has not been reported, when they clearly have and indeed on EPQR’s your own official defect report system. I can prove that I have been working with a specialist seat company and Land Rover with the approval and agreement of Land Rover who are going to pay for the modification to be carried out under warranty to improve the seat.
You have lied again Ford.
Why do dealers not want to complete EPQR’s. Maybe because it takes 20 minutes each one and they just did not have enough time to fill each defect out. As a result of some of the action from this site, I know that you have allowed dealers time to complete EPQR’s, so there is no excuse that they are not completed anymore.
Please see my post:

I could go on, but I would like a personal answer, Mr McAllister or Mr Kinnairds to these very simple and basic questions. Why have I turned this way, because yet again, my Discovery 3 has broken down at a critical time.
Honest and outright factual answers please gentlemen - now.

PS The latest defect diagnosed this morning by my dealer is the on board computer that controls the suspension. It is located in the drivers footwell behind the righthand trim and apparently water has entered and damaged it. This is a Land Rover gentlemen, it should be able to cope with water outside, so how does it get inside the passenger compartment?
Poor design maybe
Poor quality control maybe
This is my 21st trip to the dealer in 6 months and has lost me almost the equivalent in working time, fuel and much more.

I have received many e mails from certain people in certain companies today. The answer is no I am not going to name any of you, but I will name a couple who have not contatced me if I do not get a sensible answer to this letter.
