Oil Use ????

My 07 MY D3 has just reached 6k miles and as far as I can tell, it has used NO oil.......I keep checking it as prev threads have suggested some oil usage in the beginning but mine seems not to do so....

what are other folks experiences??

a quick poll seems a simple way to check

MY05/06 or 07 might be a parameter that needs to be considered as well.

I must admit I was a liitle concerned that mine didn't use much oil (less than a litre, certainly) in first 5k miles, especially as dealer had told me that most use bucket loads until they have done between 12k and 20k miles, Certainly had me thinking ' Have they sold me a new car with a USED motor in it?'.......Still not convinced otherwise, actually, as mine is particularly noisy compared with all others. Neutral

I've put about 2-3 litres in mine over 18 months / 13000 miles

My car has only used 1 ltr or so but Mrs DSL's car used up 3-4 ltrs in first 12000 miles. Both TDV6 autos.

Mine used a couple of litres in the first 15k, now it uses 1 litre per 15000 miles.

Previous D3 didn't require any top-up prior to 15k service, current one took about a litre at roughly 8k miles. the oil usage is entirely dependent upon the distribution of the graphite in the composition of the engine block, hence the variance Wink

10fc, surely the graphite would be homogeneous ?

Why would it?
The blocks i've seen prior to machining have stratified graphite... no two have similar distribution

Interesting. I would of thought the feedstock to the engine casting would be well blended.

if there is no contiguous graphite, then the reason to use it is lost Wink

hmmmm

mine is far from new (40000 miles) and has used 2 litres of oil in the last 8000 miles. This is apparently well within LR tolerance which surprised me...........I know modern diesels require a fair bit of bedding in but then oil consumption should be minimal surely?

my Tdi 90 never used any oil between services for the whole 130000 miles I had it for!!!!
end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......
