The oil use on the D3 is not a matter of conventional "bedding in". It's to do with the use of the CGI block, which absorbs oil when new, after which the engine uses very little. That's what TFC was talking about above.
FWIW, I only checked ours after "several" thousand km following some comments here, and there was no oil on the dipstick! It took just under 2L in one go . No further top-ups and it's now just over 20000 km.

my [now] 75k, Jan 05 model was the same as Gareth's to the first 15k but then with 1 litre per 25k miles [over a few top-ups] since then. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.
