Oil testing
Evening all
I am looking at changing the oils in my D3 and not knowing the history of the vehicle (180k on the clock) I was wondering if there would be any advantage to getting the oils checked to see what condition they were in. Has anyone else done this?
Cheers
Rob

Would the information be any good yo you as you havve already changed the oil.
The only time i have had oil tested is after a major failure and needed to know if the service history was correct

I was thinking more of content of the oil to see if there is any evidence of wear in the gears etc.

But what would you use the information for? I personally wouldnt replace a gearbox from the results of an oil test report.
Oil testing is also not cheap

Hi Rob,
Test results will tell you much about the condition of the oil, but very possibly little or nothing about the condition of the engine!
If you are anxious about the car's history have it checked out by a LR Indy, and that the oil pump has been uprated, and belts changed. If you can't work on it yourself someone on this forum will be able to recommend a reputable Indy near to you.
Beyond that, service it annually and use LR or OEM filters and quality oils.
And most importantly, enjoy it! yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

It is a good idea, but you need a hostory of oil tests to build up a picture or a baseline, ie a certain metal content has increased.
