Oil pump versions

Looking on line at oil pumps I see there are two version subject to VIN, anyone know what was different about the Gen2 pump?
A visitor from the dark side, my other vehicle is an is still an EV. Strictly speaking its SWMBO.

The gen 1 oil pump bypass valve (pressure relief) senses the pressure right at the outlet of the pump. Therefore the bypass/relief valve pressure has to be a bit of a compromise when you consider cold viscous oil (high pressure drop across the filter etc) and warm less viscous oil (low filter pressure drop. End result is varying oil gallery pressures at different engine temperatures.

The gen two pump has:

1/. A pressure sensing port (line) from the oil gallery (just above the main bearings) and uses this pressure to control the pump bypass valve, i.e. the main oil gallery pressure is constant - unlike that on Gen 1 pump

2/. It has a separate over pressure relief valve

3/. It has a dump valve that the ECU opens when you are on low load /tick over (I believe from pump & LR manual review). I believe this reduces the load on the engine when idling such that idling fuel consumption is reduced.

Pump rotor size differences:

Gen 1 and Gen have the same size rotor OD

The original rotor on the Gen 1 pumps was 13.5 mm think from memory, the Gen 2 is 15 mm thick, i.e. it pumps a higher volume of oil. However replacement Gen 1 pumps have the 15mm thick rotor and give you the increased oil flow rate.

Can you fit a Gen 2 pump onto a gen 1 block? It will bolt on, but you don't have the oil pressure control port from the main oil gallery.
Series one 1949 - in bits, chassis is strapped to the ceiling in my garage (beside the canoe)
LR 90 - In bits
Disco 3 - currently in bits
