Hi all,
FYI. Just had my D3 belts changed for the second time at 150880 miles. After reading the Forum feedback on oil pumps failing due to fractured castings I asked the indie to change the pump for the new design as I thought I was on borrowed time. But no !!! He showed me the old pump and it was as good as new.
Hey Ho. Better safe than sorry.

Hi, if.. the pump is of the old, not reinforced type... Then you are still on borrowed time presumably..
IMHO it is a rather strange advice in this case to keep the old type as it is...keeping in mind, that it has a quite few miles on it and you are changing the belt... it is not a very expensive job to do now and the ( both mechanical / financial) risk is very big if not doing it now..... if cast alloy fractures with this type of tension on it, it goes within seconds.... from looking “new” to “bang” so to speak.. Best regards
Harold

If you still have the old pump - it might still look good but as mentioned you are on borrowed time. Dont listen to your mechanic - get it changed and if your mech will not do it then change your mechanic.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear in my first post. The mechanic did change the pump as I had requested. He showed me the old pump and belts before he disposed of them.

Ah! that is better info
but for your financial peace of mind...
i can also show you a good as new, just removed from an engine with 68K MLS on it.. , but also one with 138K MLS with a broken off tensioner mount.... you do not see old fatigue fractures... just one breakline.... the final one... Best regards
