Oil Pump Crankshaft Seal Fitting

Found a good easy way to install the crankshaft seal to the oil pump as i did not have a socket wide or deep enough to drive the seal on squarely into the housing without any damage.

Although i already had a LR genuine oil seal for this, i decided to order the Victor Reinz oil seal from Advanced Factors simply for the reason that it comes with the plastic seal fitting ring to smoothly and easily fit the seal without damage - and it is very easy to damage these PTFE seals which unlike the rubber seals are hard.
I now also have the fitting ring for any future seals, saves having to buy the Special Tool ...............although hopefully won't need it again Confused

To drive the oil seal squarely into the housing i used the plastic spacer used in the oil pump casing when it is supplied new to hold the oil pump drive flange in position.
I simply reversed the spacer as can be seen in the pictures and used an old BMW crankshaft nut spacer and the crankshaft bolt to drive in the seal.
The seal sits flush with the casing.

I can't really tell from the pics as there is a bolt temporarily fitted blocking the view, but have you checked that you have not got the suspect oil pump casing where the timing belt tensioner bolts on to the casing?
The later casings have a more substantial casting at this point. I only mention this as there have been one or two cases where the casing has fractured and the tensioner has come off with alarming results (i.e. new engine). Don't mean to worry you but thought you might like to check. look up 'oil pump' and 'timing belt tensioner' on this forum. Lots of helpful info from the likes of Disco_Mikey et al.
Your seal fitting info is very helpful. Thumbs Up

The seal does not fit flush with the face of the casing, when you use the LR tool the seal does sit 1mm below the face of the casing, just make sure its in enough.

Oil pump prices

Hi just a short note from mid France - Peugot price for the oil pump (retail) is 356.75Euro - Citroen is 306.82Euro both are extra for the seal. (£1 = ~1.16Euro at the moment) (thank you all you leaver types!)
Both prices are plus VAT(TVA).
While I was in Peugot they stated that there are 4 bolts for the water pump 3 plus 1 other??? Beleive me you do not want to know the prices!!!
