Is this oil ok?

Hi,

Just bought my Disco 4 and loving this forum. I have done a search but just confused myself on what oil I need...

I have this oil and I'm not sure if it is suitable. Can someone tell me if it's ok, why it's ok and if it's not ok, why it's not ok? I'd like to learn please.

It's used on the wife's antara and was used in my nav. It's no great issue if it's not suitable, but if I don't need to buy oil then it's a bonus. Thumbs Up

Many thanks

Jim

Your car handbook will detail the oil you need.
The oil recommended is one that meets Oil WSS-M2C934B spec. If that's not available, then 5w30 C1 synthetic is good.
Lots and lots of posts on the subject on this very forum....

C3 can be used, C1 is extended service interval (based on oil degredation), C3 is for fixed service interval .

I change mine every 5k Miles and use C1 every time , for a few quad more I know it has the correct spec oil, even if only for 5k Thumbs Up

Hi,

Thanks for the replies. I'll have a read of the ACEA oil codes then. It's all very confusing...

I think for the sake of spending a bit more, as beanie says, I'll get the right stuff and save what I have for the wife's car.

Wonder what the cost is for oil from Land Rover? Dare I ask the stealers! Shocked

Best regards

Jim

That’s a good question. When I first got my D4 (2013) and I needed a litre to top it up, the main dealer told me that they did not sell the oil for the D4, and told me to go to a Ford dealer!! Unbelievable!.

Might be different now, but certainly the ‘low ash’ oil for the DPF equipped cars was hard to come by.

5/30 C1

As mentioned above, C1 is the spec you need.

This has been discussed a few times - one Oil spec that was recommended is:-

Shell Helix Ultra Professional AF-L 5w - 30

Spec is ACEA C1, Ford WSS-M2C934-B and JLR STJLR.03.5005

I bought some from Site Sponsor, Opie Oils

https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-79221-shell-h...e-oil.aspx

£39.95 for 5Li, £11.95 for 1Li - doesn't include the discount

EDIT - not 100% sure if Opie are Site Sponsors any more, but service was excellent

A 2012 D4 V6 diesel will definitely have a DPF therefore you must use C1 grade to avoid blocking.

I've read on a number of forums that the C1 was best / recommended. I too change mine around every 5/6k miles but this last time was the first using C1.

May be coincidence or paranoia but ever since that change it hasn't sounded quite as smooth. I also used a HU826x MANN HUMMEL OIL FILTER.

On another note... I recently posted about some warnings in this post here, and wondered if there was any connection? (Although agree with comments on there that it could be egr).

Hoping I've not missed a trick here and been a space-cadet!
