never done it but I'd have thought a repair would prove temporary … if it's failed at the crimp the tubing will have started to tear I reckon.

if there were enough tubing you might be able to remove the ends and create new ones … but I doubt there is enough tube spare to do it.

Does anyone know if the crimped joints on the gearbox coolant hoses (UBP500340) where they go from rubber to metal can be repaired if leaking or is it a case of replacing the complete set which is a couple hundred quid for the pipes, that's before you attempt to fit um?

Usually its a replacement job for most people Nick, but........
Sometimes they can be repaired if you take them to a hydraulics specialist. I have done this a few times in the past with success as they have the hyd hose press needed. A gentle re crimp will often do it, but too much and its game over Big Cry

So gave it a clean & it looks as though it could be weeping under the clamp on the metal pipe.

There may be a chance that it's residual oil weeping out from before i cleaned it.

My thoughts are that there could have been corrosion caused by moisture trapped between the pipe & rubber support. This in turn may have caused a small pinhole.

I'll continue to monitor it but it looks like a replacement jobby. I think it's a task beyond my patience levels so another 500 quid to find Banging Head

You may well be right but keep a regular eye on it to confirm leak point.

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? While I was sorting my FBH at the weekend I found a little drip of clean brown/gold oil on the n/s intercooler hose connection. Too clean for engine oil and gear box cooler pipe is directly above. Didn't have time to look hard but I tightened the hose into the gearbox oil cooler to the side of the radiator. I wonder if it is a big job to replace?

Moneypit is in later this month for the pipe to be replaced. In true LR fashion you have to buy the set not just the one that failed, they are around £160, my indy says the book is 3 hours but to expect around 4.5 as its pig of a job! So labour will be about another £200, All plus VAT.

I just hope it is only the pipes & nothing more sinister. As I still wonder why 3 leaks all appeared at the same time on the same line of pipeline from the gearbox. My worry is something caused the pressure in the box to surge which exposed the weak points. That said, the box is working the same as it always has although it was never right after the first garage that serviced the box under filled it with the wrong oil, but that's another story!

So I stripped moneypit down this morning. Nothing conclusive found Shocked

The upper gearbox hose into the radiator was cirtainly leaking & loose. I've cleaned & tightened it.

The lower gearbox hose was also loose, attempted to tight the B******d thing.

The NS intercooler hose appears tight & sealed.

The OS intercooler hose connection was leaking. Cleaned & reseated. There wasn't much oil either which I hope is a positive indicator regarding the turbo.

The as certainly different fluids leaking from different places. The OS is engine oil. The nearside is gearbox oil, hence the point i initially made about clearer mineral smelling oil.

The intercooler doesn't show any signs of failure & is dry along the underside between the two connections at either end.

Did find another leak above the steering rack which looks to be a coolant hose (connections from rubber to metal) Perhaps someone could confirm from the images below? Thumbs Up

How did you access the lower gearbox fluid hose to the rad?

I can barely see mine but I have a feeling this is where my leak is coming from.

Hi Classikfan,

I loosened the expansion bottle & released the lower fan cowl to give some movement & then I used a 400mm 1/4 extension bar on a socket. I was able to get my left hand down to the lower connection & guide the socket onto the clip to allow me to nip it up just a touch which seemed to do the job.
