Oil Leak - 2011 Disco 4 v8 HSE
Good day all,
NEWBY LAND ROVER OWNER. HELP NEEDED.I have always been a keen reader of the 4x4 community posts over the years. Must say what a great community for insight and knowledge around vehicles. I made the jump and bought my pre owned 2011 Disco 4 V8 HSE (173400km) privately last week. I always had a crush on the Disco 4 V8. The service records were up to date, however the last couple were done by a non LR approved RMI so I have my doubts about the quality of service rendered. So I took the vehicle to the techies last week to do a full diagnostics. No issues were detected on the computer, other than them telling me the anti roll bar bushes s bushes due for replacement (QUOTED: R4800). After this I identified an oil leak .. To make things worse when I got home I let the vehicle cool checking the oil level as this was bugging me. I did the oil check and guess what, I got a message stating ‘Oil below minimum level’ that’s strange the vehicle was serviced 169432km as per previous owner and service book. So I topped up the oil with 5
1,5l and oil level message changed to ‘OKq’. This morning when I woke up started the vehicle to idle came back and checked the garage floor for any oil leaks and there it was a little oil leaked onto the garage floor. DAMN! This is not a good start as I am in love with this car. 😉
I eventually found the oil leak on the passenger side of the engine. I turned the wheel to get better access to view and got some pics taken. I see a loose nut and oil seeping. But its to tight to get my hand up there to tighten. Does anyone have an idea what time part is that seems loose?

Regards,
Jacques

Hi all,
Any idea what this loose part is that might cause an oil leak? Is it the cam cover?

Looking at the pics, it is above the exhaust manifold to cat joint so can you get to it or see it better by removing the wheel, inner wheel arch and heat sheild?
It looks like the bolt is on the inside pointing in to the engine bay? But you may be able to get on it?Series 1 V8

Thanks for the input. Someone else told me it may be the cam cover as its causing an oil leak. Its going in tomorrow to replace the anti roll bar bushes. They will have a look. If dont have the tools to do the job. Hopefully not to much money to fix.

Re: Oil Leak - 2011 Disco 4 v8 HSE
Hi All,
So I took my Landy to LR Extreme yesterday.
The ARB bushes were replaced. No more squeeking. Yay!!! The also identified a leaking CV boot cover now replaced. So some preventative maintenance done there. Lastly but not the least was the oil leak. The photos I took was the tappet covers. So the leak was due to the LH tappet cover bolts being loose. The scary thing is that they were all loose you could turn them with your hand. Seems like a previous service job where they forgot to tighten the bolts. Walter team tightened the bolts and no more leak. Will continue to monitor precautionary. Glad it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. Walters team is top notch.

So I topped up the oil and overfilled warning light came on. Oeps. So my brain went into overdrive. I eventually came up with a simple solution. I rinsed and cleaned an old large hair conditioner bottle pump. The pipe fits like a glove on the disco 4 oil extraction tube. Started pumping and eureka!!! I pumped enough oil out into a plastic bottle for the warning light to go off. No trip needed to the techies.
