Oil in brake - gurgling noise - P017 Recall

Hi all

My Disco 3 has the dreaded gurgling sound when braking and some loss of braking assistance. It all points to the P017 recall which requires changing the pump & servo.

When trying to book it in with Pentland Land Rover (Edinburgh) they said "it doesn't have any outstanding recalls" but I have the full service history and I know it's never been done. What's more worrying is that the guy I spoke on the phone who identified himself as a manager had no idea about this issue which is as serious as can be.

I'm after any insights of anyone in the group who managed to get this fixed through the recall in recent months, how did you go about it and did you get anyone telling you "it has no outstanding recalls"??

If course I can book it with my trusted LR indy garage who are so much better than LR themselves, but if I can avoid the £1000 bill I'd be happy to.

I don't think it comes up as and outstanding recall, as i think its on a customer complaint basis.

All I would do is print out the 17 document or email it to the guy you spoke to, and see if he can clear it with JLR

Thanks mate. Unfortunately he rang back to confirm the recall has been done. In my service records it doesn't show up. He said "they used a different system".

Assuming he is right and it was done, is it expected to fail again? It's been about 50k miles since it was done originally according to him.

Isn’t there a weird looking new pipe arrangement which shows it’s been done? At least that would prove or disprove whether it’s been done or not.

My D3 died a grizzly death 7 years ago and I don’t think I have any pics of it, will see what I can find.

PS Like this.

I might be talking rubbish, it has happened one or twice in the last millennium, hopefully the techie types on here will confirm or shoot down my theory. Thumbs Up

yes DSL, that is part of the Mod.

LR use to keep redoing the recall if it failed again (which is did), however more recently, they have not been repeating the mod.

However keep on at them. Say its very dangerous etc.

Thank you all for the info. Yes, per the photo, it looks consistent with my D3.

After several attempts, I've just been resigned to the fact that they won't fix it. Way too long ago plus no 'official' LR service records for the last few years.

Before I go for the full fix, I've seen people online commenting about a certain Repair Kit. Link found below:
https://www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/ff_part?part=28567

Part number is LR067905

I've looked online but found zero articles, posts or guides, including in the full workshop manual which I keep saved locally.

Has anybody used this? What does it do and how to use it please?

Thank you

Not seen that referenced before.

The LR mod consists of

Changing the spring in the vacuum pump (that mod I guess )
Twin pipe setup, so the second port on the vac pump is used.
Changing the servo if it contains oil.

adding a non return valve in pipework

Yes, exactly. All of those things have been done, albeit a few years ago.

I've written to the seller to see if it's applicable and how to use it.
