Oh FFS...another diff failure !
Looks like the rumble wasn't a wheel bearing after all
I have to go back to Team Valley again next Wednesday for them to prepare a full Engineering report....oil checked for filings, photographs, diff ID number etc.....but they're pretty sure that what it is
I know it's a warranty issue but after only 26k ???.....it's another 170 mile round trip
At least the front diff on my D3 lasted 65k.......not happy "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Diffs are fickle ...I had 4 go under 20K miles over the last 9 years but fingers crossed nothing on the D4 as yet21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I did 8 years on my original diff and it was fine when I traded it in. Not sure why others have so many issues.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

This feels and sounds totally different to when the front diff failed on my D3
I have a constant rotational rumble, regardless of whether I am on the accelerator or not....that is at odds with my first failure, where it showed the classic symptoms.
It is particularly evident under firm braking, where it sounds vaguely like a turbine engine powering down quickly......that is exactly how my previous failed wheel bearing sounded, making me think that was the culprit.
I haven't tried reversing at off-road height with full lock in low ratio...that's when the D3 diff failure was as its most obvious.
Bit hacked off tbh,and will be very interested to read the engineering report after next Wednesday"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Tough luck Euan - hope it pans out OK next week. As others have said, better now than when out of warranty, but I know what you mean about being hacked off - these are supposed to be a premium but rugged vehicle
My front wheel bearing finally collapsed yesterday on my way back from Aberdeen (doing '70' in outside lane )
Managed to limp down to Morrisons Landrover in Stirling who, to give them their credit, were excellent and gave me a courtesy car within 10 minutes. New bearing replaced this morning, all under extended warranty, and I returned the courtesy FL2 with another 300 on the clock.Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE
