Seems to only be two that actually offer off-road cover:
LR - Not the cheapest but proven to payout for damage caused off-road
NFU - Generally good prices

Same as NFU from what I am told by my local office. As long as you are not competing and you have permission to be on the land they will cover you. Greenlanes of course are public highways to even Swinton covers you.

NFU not yet proven though - hopefully never tested either.

Be good to hear from someone who has claimed from them though.

[Off topic whilst still on topic...]

NFU claim to be a
"rural insurer, we can offer car insurance specifically designed for people who do most of their driving in the country."... Was this a rule from the foundation of the company or is it something that has to be stuck to? Ie. would they simply not insure me as I would drive mostly in town?

I think they were born out of the National Farmers Union... so I imagine their policies cover rural users who also drive off road as part of their lifestyle Wink

They also told me that 'its a LR, of course you will take it off road' Thumbs Up

But then I live in a rural area and they are in a famous old market town.

You saw it Shocked

Been sneaking round my gallery again Thumbs Up

Yep - very nice. Getting used to the posher interior (dash trim changes really make it feel more premium - cloth not leather though) and the dark bonnet in front of me. Harder to place on the road as the silver was easier to spot out of the corner of my eye. Will get used to it of course but being far too precious at the moment Embarassed

Nice to have a clock I can read too - especially when wearing sunglasses as the polarised filter on the LCD display of the stereo caused it to be nearly black.

Embarassed god I'm getting geeky Shocked

Noticed it the other day as a new addition to the general Gallery.

The side strips work well with the colour.

What has it got round the front in terms of xenons/fogs ?

Any mods planned?

Thumbs Up (Must get back to work - 1 week and 1 day of exams left Big Cry )

Strips chosen for that very reason Thumbs Up

Xenons added (bit of a problem currently when they start up though from cold) and fogs are standard on XS.

Well... someone here maybe selling their mantec soon (fingers crossed and also fingers crossed they dont have too), will keep an eye out for another RAI if one goes cheap - though not too worried bout that one yet.

In a quandary over keeping it clean or looking for mud at the moment... well its new you know.

Call NFU.

Also look in the back of any LR mag, loads of insurance companies in the ads section will do off road cover.

I'm with CSMA who use Fizzell aka Liverpool & Victoria. When I spoke to them about this in November (I was considering changing to LR/NFU) they confirmed that although they wouldn't cover for any "time trailing or other competitive event" I am covered for all off road use as standard and this includes going to non-competitive events at pay & play sites, working off road for personal use such as logging and of course green lanes as these are part of the Queen's Highway network.

The great thing was it was also cheaper than either NFU or LR - so the moral of the story: Speak to your existing insurers before switching, and get them to confirm in writing or at very least provide a reference number for the conversation.
LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.
