got flashed in super sensitive Switzerland....in ahire car
She was only a named driver...on an NZ licence
We had to pay the fine (or they come after the hirer)

Believe it or not if you get a speeding ticket here in the scotland, England, Wales...a Northern Ireland Licence cannot be "marked"...you have to get a UK paper licence portion & then its immediateley cancelled.

I beleive on the rest of the EU countries...you have to pay the fine but they cant mark points
 BREXIT - done properly.

I went to try and pay my Italian fine on line (autostrada, wouldn't take my credit card) but it wouldn't accept my credit card. Never mind. Rolling Eyes

Its true that in the UK if a forgein (sic) plate gets flashed.. nothing happens.. it gets binned as the reg number does not appear on the DVLA database so they have no way of tracing the driver.

On the other hand.. if the moterist gets caught by an actual human being (god forbid) they can be detained and put before the next available court... in reality this doesnt happen for speeding very often.

I guess its much the same in Europe the main difference being they have 'on the spot' fines which can be enforced at the point of offence.

I do wonder how long it will be before the ANPR cameras at the ports are updated overnight with speeding offenders so they can be issued a fixed penalty ticket before the board the ferry/eur tunnel though.

I've flashed in Switzerland, Spain, France - nothing happened.

I got pulled in Italy a few years ago by a plod doing a spot check, and got a severe telling off for not carrying my license. They would have arrested me and taken me to the cop shop had I not had the children in the car.

I seem to recall that good ol' Tony Blair agreed to an arrangement where you would get both fined and points added from any offences committed in France Big Cry

The legislative proposals must now be approved by MEPs in a vote in the European Parliament before becoming law. There is then a two year period for Member States to transpose EU legislation before it comes into force, possibly by 2013.
