Off road ride height not selected in special programs

When not towing a trailer and selecting say, rock crawl on the Terrain response, I get an error on the dash saying off road ride height not selected owing to a trailer being connected.

But simply raising the ride height with the button works.

has anyone else seen this or similar?

Built in safety feature - whilst the car might know you have a trailer attached it does not know the spec of your trailer. Therefore if it is OK to raise you the suspension with your specific trailer you must make the choice manually

Sorry, didn't explain properly - this is without the trailer attached

no worries, my OP reads either way.

It's as if the car doesn't realise the trailer has been disconnected (and I don't mean recently - I got the warning today a week since towing anything)

Also, when hitched up fully I don't get any indication on the dash that a trailer is attached. Is this normal on the D4?

I would be interested to know what they say.

My dealer had a look at the problem and did a hard reset but that didn't cure it. They would have needed to keep the car for longer and I didn't consider it enough of an issue versus the inconvenience.

But I will want it solved before the warranty expires.

Pleased to report that the fault has gone away after a visit to the dealer today (for other work).

When I left the car this morning I checked that the trailer warning was still there but tonight when collecting it I couldn't get it to go wrong at all, so very happy

I didn't manage to get an explanation but I probably wouldn't have understood it anyway as there seems to be a lot of logic behind the electrickery in Discoveries these days

I would try to connect the trailer again, get the message on the screen, then detach it and see if fault remains there. Sometimes connecting the diagnostic unit 'resets' (clears) faults and maybe that's why you don't get the message now. Maybe you have just discovered a Discovery bug! Laughing

Hi Promitheus,

That's a good point and I will test it for a permy fix that way, but don't have a trailer available for another couple of weeks.

Will report back later this month.

Cheers

I don't think mine adjusts the ride height anyway? I usually just raise it and don't bother with special program's, hill decent gets on my nerves anyway!

Same fault message back again as before so not fixed.

@Promitheus, I didn't get chance to actually connect up the trailer since the dealer had it in, I just needed Rock Crawl briefly today and straightaway there it was back again and wouldn't go into off road height by itself

Hmm, interesting, I hadn't thought of a physical cause (the logic could be working correctly but on misinformation caused by a damaged wire?)

Might have to have a rummage under the rear bumper perhaps

But there are other (correct) indications that the car knows when the trailer is disconnected such as the rear parking sensors start working again

Hi all; resurrecting an old thread, but I've got the same error; a warning that off-road height can't be set when selecting special programs as the car mistakenly thinks a trailer is connected (it's not; the last thing connected was a cycle carrier back in August!).

I didn't think to actually check whether I can force it into off-road mode manually (via the height switch).

Did anyone find a cause / fix?

Cheers,
Ade
