Small number of 59 Plate D4's in UK were 2.7 Engines with manual or auto box. Commercials only and only for about for a couple of months Thumbs Up

Oh really? I’ve never seen a non commercial D4 with a manual or 2.7.

So.... given it's a d3 wearing a d4 dress, is it worth buying?

Its not a D3 - it is a D4 as built just with the 2.7 TDV6 - at the same time the hi horsepower 3.0 SDV6 was also sold. Ultimately the 2.7 TDV6 was replaced by the low power 3.0 TDV6 and sold alongside the hi power 3.0 SDV6 when the gearboxes went to the 8 speed.

The 2.7 was part of the standard lineup of the early D4s and is priced accordingly. As well the 2.7 does break crankshafts as much as the 3.0 and the D4 2.7 does not have the oil pump issue of the earlier 2.7s.

If the car is what you want, then buy it.

In the Uk the 3.0l TDV6 and SDV6 were the same, both 245hp in non commercials.

The change came with the introduction of the 8 speed which changed to the extra 10hp.

Yes but the OP does not live in the UK - in this part of the world there were two 3.0 engines - one about 155kw and the other at 180kw.

We do not have commercial models in this part of the world.

Very early, lower spec UK D4’s came with the 2.7 engine from the D3
UK buyers of late 2009 or very early 2010 check the V5 to ensure the power is 180KW - which is the higher power 3.0 TDV6
Check out the D4 brochures in my gallery 👍
Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.
Ex D3 and D4

Ok team, so this d4 is affordable and done 214,000k. Good history and recent trans overhaul inc torque converter. New park brake module too.
But..... it's still a low line equipped 2.7 tdv6.

In your opinion should I go further with this or look for an older d3 hse with all the toys and potentially lower k's.

D4 3.0 is out of budget and petrol is a no go.
RRS just too small for camping away with plus lack of off road equipment for them too.

Your input is appreciated as usual.

Do did you go to AULRO as I suggested above? This forum is 16,000km away and do not really know much about 2.7 D4s, where AULRO is only 1,000km away and knows all about our local D4 variants.

However at the end of the day, only one person can decide which is suitable.
