Number plate area between rear lights - is it black now?
Noticed that a few Discovery 5's are black between the rear lights, below the rear window but above the rear bumper. Googled D5 photos and none are black but instead body colour.
So is this an option that can be selected or part of a black-pack or something?>

I've noticed that too. In fact I was using a 3.0 HSE last week that was black between the lights. It does help... still ugly, but it helps! I presumed that was the recent design change forced by public reaction?

Yes very similar to the two photos above - gloss back between rear lights and around number plate area
No photos though as all D5 seen on motorway.

there does seem to be a general consensus regarding the rear design and not well received , wonder why they done it like that

how have u found driving one every now if u don't mind me asking , will be interesting to see over time how easy they can be worked on and maintained

Really nice to drive have done a few miles in mine now and some long trips including towing a large TA caravan. Only issue I had when towing was keeping the speed down.
As for the black trim on the back this is available as an extra for about £300MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

I think it is part of one of the option packs.
I liked the look of it after seeing it on a US market D5, might have been the one pictured above.
That and a Japanese spec rear number plate and I think it would look more balanced.
That shape of plate just doesn't look right
I have seen the odd Disco 3 and 4 with abnormal rear plate for some reason and they look rather odd aswell.

There was a white one at the LR stand at the Chatsworth Fair last week (along with a Velar).
White with the black roof and spoiler and black panel between the lights did look slighlty better.
end still isnt right though, I'm sure LR ould have done a much better job of it.

The black section does improve the look of the back end. It’s also on the Discovery Sport - I had one while our car was at the dealers and this too had a black section between the rear lights. It improved the look of the sport as well!
