NSF "Squeaking" even after turing off the engine |
|
I'm getting a squeak squeak squeak noise from the front left of the car that carries on for approx 10 seconds after the engine is turned off (probably squeaking all the time but with the engine going it's being drowned out)
Is this some kind of pulley bearing or belt getting tired? 57 RRS TDV8

Pretty sure that's your EGR valves cleaning themselves ready for next time you start. It's what they're supposed to do You can also sometimes hear the turbo vanes doing the same thing.
When the engine's running these components "hover" in the position defined by the ecu's as being optimal and so don't move through the full extent of their possible range.
At shut-down they exercise to their limits to ensure any crud is scraped away before it gets too cold and sets like concrete. Dr. Ian Malcolm:

I like that. If that's correct, it's a clever feature and a cool thing to have learned; if it's not true it's a brilliant spoof!
