I had a tow bar fitted when I bought my Disco last year , should I have notified or mentioned it to my insurance company ??

Yes is the simple answer - unless your policy says differently. It's a change from the previously advised spec.

Read the small print as it varies by provider. I declare mine but it's already often covered anyway by the policy.

if you do notify them, make a note of the persons name, the date and time and add a comment to your policy docs,
They will no doubt just say "yes that's fine" so you keep the call log just in case
