They do this for tax reasons in Denmark - normal vehicles attract seriously huge amounts of tax - I don't know the exact figure but I believe its between 50% and 100%, really!
Make it into a motorhome or camper and that drops to a tiny figure.

The TDV6 camper is 539,000 to 663,500 krona
The TDV6 SUV is 785,000 to 990,000 krona
i.e. 46% to 49% more for an unconverted vehicle - absolutely BARMY!
Finally when you do the sums thru www.xe.com - the cheapest S spec camper is £49,616 and the dearest non-camper TDV6 HSE is £91,168 (is there a falling off your chair in shock smilie anywhere?)

Yup! The Danish State do make a nice big profit on car sales.
The tax for a normal car is 180% with seats all around and for vans it is 90% up to 2 tonnes and 30% between 2-4 tonnes. On top of that there is the normal tax 25% which is refundable for car used in companies. So as you can imagine most of the Danish Land Rovers is sold as commercial vans (mine is too), with no rear seats and a plain floor as a cargo area.
This is why my wife drives a Citröen C5 stc. Instead of a RRS
In Sweden, 45 minutes from where I’m sitting, the cars is tax-free………!!

Reminds me of many years ago in New Zealand when a Chevette (Gemini ? in Europe) used to be sold with no rear seat for similar reasons and you drove around the corner to the side door of the same dealer and they sold you a genuine aftermarket rear seat (the seat belts were already in the car) - labelled "Vauxhall" for about $ 200. In a similar manner, we used to have to buy "Road Tax" certificates and have a permit to haul our own goods from our own farm from the far North to Home ................. in case we were competing with the the State Owned Railways. The only problem was that the train line stopped 130 km south of the farm at the last Meat Works.
But of course when it comes to their own perks and supperannuation and holidays.................... well all us dumb citizens pay for them.

Same rules apply in Belgium, and are gotten strickter as of this year.
For a Disco III 5 or 7 seater, you pay 2800 euro's just for getting it on the road (once) and a yearly tax of 970€
We had rules so we could buy it as a light van, only if the cargo space was at least 30% of the wheelbase and with a closes compartment.
Now this rule is only when cargospace is at least 50% or if you drive a pick-up.
For a light van, you don't have to pay the one time tax, and yearly tax is depending on the max carrying and towing weight.
For the DIII it was only 250€/year
Converting to camper was possible, but not anymore, unless it's been certified by the manufacturer of the carIn a time of chimpanzees, I was a penguin. www.m-release.com
