I'm guessing the auto-addition of normal_ in front of the name of any posted pics, which then reduces their size, is a throwback to days when disk-space was in shorter supply ?
could the default be changed to show stuff at native size ? ... if nothing else it will save DSL from going round re-posting pics at full size in threads (which probably then consumes disk-space as it's additional to the smaller versions)..

Where are you seeing the addition of 'normal_' ?21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
b*gg*r ... that example doesn't demonstrate it ... does in "preview" mind.
typo on my part ... does show it now

It shows up most in a pic with text, the text becomes readable.
With normal_ bit

Without it

I discovered it by chance, posted a pic of something in a second thread and couldn’t work out why it was low res in original one & higher in the second, which was taken from the gallery rather than in thread loaded bit. Taking the “normal_” bit sorted it in pics from in thread loading. Meant to ask Martin about it but it’s still on the to-do list.
Hmm ... on my phone now rather than PC and my example with normal_ removed isn't showing a picture. Might be a refresh thing but may justify current approach..

Quite intrigued now as to why it won't display... Are you on a crapple device Del?

Nope, the use of the 'normal_' version in the inline forum-based uploading and placing of images in posts is done to minimise *bandwidth* and page loading time issues. This is still important now with mobile devices and limited data contracts.
Both the resized ("normal_") and full size images are stored, and the BBCode for placing the full size image has always been given as an option in the gallery, so it's no secret.
I don't believe the default should be to post the full size one each time, as that's going to be many megabytes of images in a post when it's not usually necessary.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
