Non quote from LRI as not lived back in the UK long enough |
|
Argh! Having decided that insuring the new D4 it would be best to go with LRI with all the promises of guaranteed original parts, repair centres, courtesy car, warranty protection etc, etc.
Gave them a call got a couple of minutes into the call and as I have been on secondment in France for 5 1/2 years was unable to continue - they wanted the 3 years previous residence in the UK (still had a house here) and as I wouldn't have any NCD - as driven company car in France and no personal car or insurance there or here, we were unable to move forward 'computer said no'.
To be fair the young lady on the call was very apologetic but said there was nothing could be done without evidence of NCB (I think that is the sticking point) but isn't that a catch-22, no NCB, no insurance, no insurance, no NCB...
Might go some way to explain why so many of our 'European' settlers don't have insurance...
It seems crazy that they refuse to quote and at the same time stress you have to disclose all information, what not living in the UK has to do with my ability to have or not have an insurance claim in the future I have no idea.
So will have to find something akin to their insurance and try and get some commitment on parts and repairs if the worst were to happen - it is a gamble but in the even would not want to effectively have a 'cheap' job done on it.

Thanks though will have a look at them. Steve

I had a similar problem. Have worked abroad outside of the UK for more than 8 months a year for more than 3 of the past 5 years, and no NCB due to driving vehicles registered under a company policy.
LRI and A-Plan both unfavorable in such conditions, I found the cheapest, with the highest amount of cover, was Admiral.
£1109 a year, despite living in a good area, never having had an accident, only going to be doing about 8k a year in the Disco, IAM courses - driving over 900,000 miles in the past 6 years. None of it counts for anything if they can't trace you back through their systems.
What makes it worse is the Mrs pays about £190 a year on her car and she crashes the damn thing almost monthly.

I moved from NFU to A-plan. LRI wouldn't insure the D3 as it was over 5years old. very pleased with A-plan so far Prince Harry's D3: G4 factory equipped D3 - expo rack, winch, roof lights, ladder, active locking rear diff, RAI, Melville & Moon seat covers, General Grabber ATs/ Goodyear Duratrac

Yep that is the really frustrating part, had full NCB when I left and have had 5 1/2 years driving in France with no accidents, no claims yet it counts for nothing.
Managing that in France should get me credit alone some very dodgy driving especially at 'Rond Points'! Steve

Well thanks to my friend got the insurance covered, he also gave me the ncb with a cover letter from company confirming no claims whilst abroad. Happy with that for the first year and see what it is like next.
Also dropped it by £400 once he added the 10 years to my age that were missing, sometimes good to be an old(er) fart. Steve

I have a colleague in the same position and now he just leaves an old Peugeot worth about £50 insured rusting away in a friendly farmers yard and doesn't mention the work abroad. The rest of the family are still in UK, has his house etc. He just spend 3/4 of the year in sandier parts of the globe.
