Discowex,

I have stripped a couple down to fit bluetooth kits , ACM and the car kit connecting wires.

Yes it is very tight behind there , but i have found most problems occure if you block the 2 grooves the bottom the stereo fits into.

If any wire is in the way you will never get the head unit back in.

I have stripped my car apart and taken a picture for you ..see the red circles.

(didn't realy strip it down just for you Thumbs Up )

I found it very straightforward once Wiggs had confirmed that you don't need to bother with the larger 4-plug harness and telemute box (the LR stereo provides the mute and speaker functionality). Top man Bow down

I installed the 3 pins into the stereo connector block first, then took power and ground for the Nokia (into the same harness), from the RHS cig lighter plug (again, Wiggs idea Bow down Bow down ), didn't connect the blue "ign sense" line at all. Hid the nokia box behind the steering wheel lower trim panel (with the lap heater vent in it), ran the mic up the drivers A pillar and the remote button just to the left of the steering column. Cradle is mounted on the trim panel just to the rear of the EPB switch/lever, angled towards the driver.

All works well, esp using voicetags...knocks socks off our RRS factory PT"I" installation Evil or Very Mad

Once installed, play around with the three volume controls Exclamation (phone, car kit and stereo) and you'll likely find somewhere where everything is in a comfortable part of its amp range and the sound quality is very good. A phone msg comes up on the stereo when using the phone, radio is muted and CD playback is paused so you don't miss anything Smile

Have fun!
 Cheers

I have a similar set up to SimonSi. I have a question however, do you find that the radion mutes whenever you press a key on the phone. In previous car kits it only muted the radio when a call was in progress.

No, mine only mutes when you make a call OR a msg comes in - have you got keypad tones set to ON, maybe that causes the phone to try and put those tones through the h/f and hence mutes it???

Got it fitted & working Thumbs Up

Had to strip the LR HU loom right back.Pulled it back into the void under the centre LH dash airvent , connected the Elan female lead blocks , left them in the same void , pullled the Elan male blocks back through into the stereo housing , squeezed the stereo back in and alls well Thumbs Up

Sound quality is much improved.

Sorted out a sticking hazard light button whilst I was at it aswell.

Got it all stripped down at the moment, got the wiring in the back of the stereo plug. Trying to access the wiring at the back of the lighter sockets to get to the +ive feed and earth. How do you get the socket strip out? Got the 2 screws out at either end, but it seems fixed elsewhere...... Confused

There is, alledgedly, a big clip that hold the centre of the strip in, I never got mine that far out but just created enough clearence on the RHS side to scotchloc onto the socket pwr and gnd wires before pushing the strip back into place.

Thanks Thumbs Up

Can just about see the clip, but its holding on so tight I thought there was something else there. I'll see if I can reach the wiring.

Did you connect the +ive to a switched source then? There's no permanent 12V there.

Yep, then there is no need to connect the ign sense from the Nokia kit. All works fine.
