Noises from my front right wheel... |
|
I've got a 3 yr old XS, 45 on the clock. Anyone help me with this? When I turn from right to left, I get an intermittent scraping noise coming from my front right. It gets more intense with more lock and is related to the speed of the vehicle. If I'm really tipping it into a corner I can feel it on the steering wheel. i thought I might have a badger caught in the wheel arch , at the very least that some trim had come loose and was tearing strips off my Scorpions , but there's nothing there. My brother-in-law ventured that it may be something to do with the power steering, and a mechanic here in Chamonix said it might be a power steering valve that's become jammed. Any thoughts, any one?

Wheel bearing would be my guess also.... But double check that it's coming from the front. Mine sounded like it was the front, but turned out to be the rear! Bodsys Brake Bible

Thanks guys, I'm going to have to get my hands onto the front wheel to see if there's any play there. But I get the feeling that a wheel bearing would give a consistent scraping noise . Looks like I'll have to take it into a stealer to have a gander, or drive back to the United States of England to claim on warranty.

If you are 3 years old and still in warranty then you can use the warranty out where you are .......
Given the way you describe the problem then when loaded by turning in said direction will make the problem worse, unloaded would not be as bad.

Hi simoniz,
You're right, more loading makes the noise worse, in a straight line there's nothing at all. I'm just out of LR warranty but have an aftermarket warranty still applicable till May. I'll have to check the wording. I'll let you know what the prognosis is when I've got the local mech to have a listen.
Otherwise, in these conditiions, I wouldn't have any other car. Still beats the rest.
