Noise under driver seat

Hi
I am getting an annoying noise under my drivers seat when changing gear and accelerating.
It is mostly from 1st to 2nd gear (manual gearbox).
It is somewhere under the drivers seat and sounds like a ball bearing in a tube moving back and forth or something loose and sliding about.
I have checked underneath and cannot find anything loose.
It happened a few weeks ago and went away and has only recently started again.
Anyone any ideas please.
