No NAV available??

Hi all,

Just taken receipt of my ‘54 plate D3. On initial test drive the navigation system came up as ‘No NAV available’ and the dealer assured me it must be because the disc was missing. Said dealer provided an ‘updated’ disc which transpired to be identical to the one I have just found was already in the player anyway. However, it still comes up with the same error message - any ideas why? Is this fixable?

Cheers, Sam [/i]

When I updated my satnav with a new disc, it said that at first, then worked. This then happened each time I turned it on for about a week, saying no nav, then going on to work ok. It seems to have stopped happening now. Just guessing, but did you lock it in, not sure if that makes any difference at all.
But as has been said, take it back. Most warranties don't cover this, but its worth a try.

Hi all,

Thank you for your replies.

I have so far tried both DVDs (the one that was already in there and the DVD that the used car guy supplied as he believed - or at least told me - the fault was down to a missing DVD) and still nothing.

I've had a look under the front passenger seat at the back of the DVD player and whilst visibility is quite poor, the leads still appear to be in there. Furthermore, power must still be going to the unit as the eject function still works.

Is there a turn-off-and-on-again type fix for this?

Cheers, Sam

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I tried to do a hard reset the other day but the neg cable seemed impossible to remove; loosened the clasp but hardly any wiggle room (cable seemed very short), no room for manoeuvre due to it being so close to the upper side of the engine bay and I didn't want to be too heavy with it as it looked as though the battery terminal was starting to bend! Are Disco batteries usually this much of a pain to fiddle about with?

Sam

Unless its an old battery, then the post should not bend. Even with the terminal off you will need a screwdriver to short the two cables together. After you loosen the bolt holding the terminal on, tap bolt gently and you should be able to lift it off. Clean up well before refitting.

Frankly the JLR SatNav is pretty poor, and the maps are very outof date.

I would suggest negotiate cash compensation from the dealer, and either use Google maps & Waze, both free, on a decent sized cellphone or tablet.

If you find those don't work for you buy a TomTom or Garmin SatNav.
