no drive after car sits for a week..for a bit anyway |
|
I have had many autos before but have noticed an oddness with this one.
Normally in the morn I start up the car, put on seat belt then pop it into drive and lift my foot of the brake so the car rolls forward about 2 metres (to allow the wife to get in as a pillar blocks the door).
After a holiday when I pop it into drive it does not move...I then pop it into neutral rev it a wee bit then pop into drive and it trundles forward...
why? It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Possibly discs have a little bit of rust on them bind them lightly to the pads? The extra revs is ually enough to break the "seal". Does it make a noise like a small bang when it finally moves?

not convinced on the discs no noise at all, but after our next holiday I will try pushing car first...feels more a lack of torque converter. It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.

Next time try just revs whilst it's in gear and see if moves then? Might not hear a noise but if you feel a small lurch then I'd be reasonably sure that it's the disc rust thing which is usual if left for a while.
Hope it's not a torque converter issue, unless it's under warranty of course?

My 2011 sdv6 hse (6spd) does exactly the same thing. Defenitely no rust on discs. The car just stands and idle in "d" and only starts moving when i press the accelerator.
92000km on the clock. Once it is warm i dont experience this problem. My cars stands for anything from a day to 7 days between drives.
Cant it be something witht the new zf on d4 that maybe has less moving from torq converter alone (no acceleration) to help with fuel saving while in d and idleing.
I'm not to technically minded - so sorry if it is a stupid idea 11 Disco 4 SDV6 HSE

As a matter of fact i'm not sure if my cars moves or not in d if it has warmed up....
I only notice no movement when i start it in the garage as it is a tight fit and need to look before reversing (eish, another fact that i only notice now - the car is not in "D" but "R"!!!!) 11 Disco 4 SDV6 HSE

Sounds more like Torque convertor related than discs to me - how many miles/km has the vehicle done?
My gearbox varied in pickup depending on whether it was cold or warmed (but that may have been because of other issues ) Currently 2009 Disco 3 SE, 2013 MY D4 HSE and 2016 D4 SE

Are you sure you had your seatbelt on? If you didn't then the EPB does not come off automatically, you have to disengage it manually.

Sorry to say , it's door open that doesn't let the EPB disengage. It seems that my seatbelt issue has overridden any other thoughts of mine. Please replace seatbelt on with door firmly closed in my previous post.
