no dash/ instrument/ console light when lights on

When i my lights come on the dash / instrument lights do not always come on...they then come on and off.

I do not think it is the fuse as I first thought as they do come on. I think it might be a relay of some sort but I cannot find out if there is one or where it is.

Its very weird driving in the dark with the dash LCD on but everything is pitch black

Any thoughts or help would be much appreciated

Others on here have had similar problems. Replacing the switch resolves it, if I remember correctly.

dimmer switch that sounds fiddly to replace that..the switch itself works as i had thought it was turned down low so when the lights came on again i gave it a turn ot two

I had the same problem when I picked up my car many moons ago.
Problem was a fuse. IIRC there are different fuses for auto light and lights on setting.

Hi.
I had this problem 2 days ago, when starting to go to work at some unearthly hour. The temp was -3 so a bit chilly, but not too bad. Turned the engine over, it fired then stalled when I released the key. It took 3 attempts to start, and at first would only idle with my foot lightly pressing the accelerator. turned the lights on, the outside lights came on but none of the dash/instrument lights Sad When I turned the heated windscreen on, all the dash lights came on.

Popped it into my local indi. that afternoon and they could find nothing wrong at all. I was thinking poor battery and or dodgy glow plug, but all was ok. Chappy at the garage did say that it showed the beginnings of a sticky EGR, but it wasn't telling him which one. When I turn the engine off it does run through a series of relay type clicking noises, has done this ever since I've had the vehicle, about 3 years.

Just thought Id say in case its any help. If I find out anymore, Ill post it on here. Very Happy

I had no dash lights for a few seconds on Monday morning. The car hadn't been used since Friday and the outside temperature was -1°C
I switch the headlights on and off a couple of times which did nothing. I then adjusted the dash dimmer switch and the lights popped on again. I'm putting this down to the dimmer switch.

I have had the same problem with my car. The dealer told me that it was a feature that operates when the battery voltage is low, switching off less important circuits. I have had the car for six years and it still happens occasionally, usually when starting in cold weather. After a short while the dash lights will come on again.

I can't see the point in turning off the dashboard lighting to save electric. The dash is illuminated by LED's, so power consumption is negligible. When my old battery was showing HDC Failure every cold start, the dash lights stayed on. There's nothing wrong with my new battery.
I suspect it's a fault that your dealer didn't want to fix. Wink

Mine used to do this, a quick flick of the dimmer wheel got them working again everytime.

Resurrecting a very old thread - don’t suppose you know which fuse/fuses? The fuse box identifier is vague at best.

I’ve got the exact issue as the first post - auto xenon lights, all working fine, all other indications show on instrument cluster EXCEPT the ‘your lights are on’ one.

My only other guess is that it could be a bulb?

I spoke to a LR specialist x3 and they all seemed baffled and unsurprisingly suggested replacing the complete cluster at a cost of £700 😳🙄 no thanks

2004/54 - a very early one.

Really? Thats insane.
Back in the day my 2006 D3 and 2006 RRS both had this - so they omitted the notification light just for those 2 years?

did your previous cars have a red warning light for this? If yes that is done by software update.

When factory fitted it is green
