Anyone had the pleasure misfortune of making a claim on an NFU policy for damage caused off-road? Just wondering how they responded
NFU seem to be one of the few insurers (along with LR Insurance) that actually offer real off-road cover, but how do you fair if you actually need to claim? The End

Well,
I have kind of....
I had my car broken into on a private car park, they were willing to handle the claim I just had to badger them that it was not just a glass claim, but also some trim and paint.
Technically I was not on the Queens highway. They were OK and the eventually came around to my way of thinking. The M-Power Express

I haven't done anything, just considering them as my next insurer (though the lady I spoke to yesterday said they don't cover general off roading so they've been ruled out anyway!)
Danny, doesn't sound promising to me
Going to go with LR Insurance, they're prices have come down and they offer proper off road cover The End

Generally I have found them to be very good, and cheapest with mods etc.
When I tried to get cover with LR insurance, they told me they DID NOT cover off-road usage - so I binned them straight away.
But, they seem to be quite popular on here, so nearer the time I shall see if they can quote me sensible.
The biggest issue I have had with them is with chipping, they don't seem to be able to get a proper handle on it.
I do like that I have a branch office and that the people 'know' me when I speak to them. The M-Power Express

I spoke to the main call centre last night, was told you're covered if you have to venture off road occasionally but not covered for playing off road. She told me one of the local offices may be able to offer different cover TBH honest I'm not really interested in insuring with them if they offer different cover depending on who you talk to, could be a nightmare if I had to make a claim Have any of you that are covered with them actually checked the policy to see what it says about off roading?
Quote I got from LR Insurance is much more competitive than they've been in the past and as they have been proven to pay out for damage caused off roading in exactly the sort of situation it could happen to me The End

Well, it is true that NFU rates do vary from office to office - I have proven this to them.
And the level/type of cover as well, when I had my genuine ex-event Camel Disco I got it insured to an agreed value as you just can't simply go out and buy a new one or an equivalent. Only the Tenterten branch offered the level of cover etc that I wanted for it.
I have moved around from branch to branch to get the cover that I want at the price that I want.
But, when it has come to modifications they have been fine, even advising me that the vehicle value has to be adjusted up to cover the new parts. And with no increase in premium.
Adrain Flux seem to be quite good in this regard as well, but I have heard mixed stories when claiming against them.
Anyway, as I recall you pay less for ins. than I do anyway??? The M-Power Express

If you push them you'll find Adrian Flux don't do off road cover (despite what they claim), green lanes only
I suspect I pay less coz I'm old and a safe risk Danny The End

just rung my NFU agent in panic.
No problem off road (and yes he asid tha was anywhere offorad) as long as non competitive.....in fact he encouraged me to use it more in its intended environment.
Also asked about chipping ... done on a case by case basis, may incur upto a 10% penalty dependant upon exactly what you have done. end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......
