Just found one that covers vehices up to seven years old and do not have to be new at first insurance:
http://www.ala.co.uk/retail/quote.php?acti...p=cars_avg
For me with a 16 month old vehicle £160 pa so way way cheaper than NFU. Small print looks fine

Another very unhappy NFU customer. Just had my renewal from NFU - £772.82 compared to £511 last year (53% increase)!! That is with full NCB and two 40+ drivers with no motoring offences.

Not sure if you insure online or with a local NFU office, my initial quote for a D4 was quite high, but I rang my local office (Gropup Secreatary) and was very happy with the more competetive quote.
There does seem to be quite a difference between internet and local office prices.
Just remember though, when the hits the fan the NFU actually do what they are meant to do, no quirming and claim avoidance, just fair people. D4 HSE Luxury SDV6,

Tried calling the local office in Wimbourne but they are not interested. As I have existing policy with their direct business they won't or can't give me a quote.

Are you sitting comfortably?
Last year my quote was £850+ at first renewal and got it down with no great effort to £740. So I paid that.
Slightly high as I have 2 claims on there in last 5 years.
Tonight I got home and my renewal quote was waiting - expected a slight increase in the current cliamte and would settle for less than £800....... the opening offer is £1,240!!!!!!
That is ONE **THOUSAND** TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY POUNDS.
Done some online searches in last few days and can get decent cover for about £700-£750.
Not even bothering to phone the bunch of schiesters. I'm off elsewhere.

Always found NFU to be excellent. Great customer care and pretty much everything we own goes through them...
I'm 32, I pay about £5-600/year... Maybe it's all these townies pushing up the premiums... 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

I am 35, had two minor incidents - both 50:50 less than £750 both. I live in the countryside. I drive another car for work, and have access to my wife's car. Having worked in insurance I know apart from the claims I would be (and have been in the past) low risk. So where the hell do they get that renewal premium from?
The best bit - they proudly point out a discount of £85!

I've emailed the CEO and pointed out that a 53% increase with no change in circumstances is unacceptable. I've had a very prompt response from his PA saying they will look in to it. I don't expect much to happen but from personal experience I know marketing/actuarial bods can be quite good at glossing over changes like this and passing off "average changes" to directors without the reality being clear.

Having had a 20% hike this year to £700 & with the memory of a curt brush-off from the local office when I queried last year's similar increase, I've voted with my feet & wallet to get a lesser policy for half the price elsewhere. Having not had an accident claim in 25 years, I'm OK with the risk of cr@p service if called upon. I will be reviewing carefully both house & the other car policies when they come up for renewal, so NFU could be out several grand from me alone. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana
