I thought I would post this in case anyone else has experienced the same and might find it useful.
For quite a while now, NFU have not been able to be remotely competitive with my insurance. I don't mind paying a little more for premium service be we're talking nearly twice the price. My renewal came up recently (with A-plan - price did increase but not by too much) and the local NFU branch phoned up to say they had changed their pricing methods so I decided to give them a chance, not expecting much.
To my surprise, they managed to beat my quote, offering cover for around £400 with a £250 excess instead of £400. They are happy with my intercooler etc., I'm paying it monthly for just a few pounds more and have full UK RAC cover for £34.99. Very happy overall.
I should say, this is based on over 20k a year, class 1 business use, max NCD.
They have also now given us an excellent deal on my VW Passat and horse trailer all in one policy and the branch is only 10 minutes away.
So if anyone, like me, has written off NFU as too expensive, give them another go.
for A-plan too though, I would have been happy to stick with them.Current: Discovery 3 06MY (55 reg) HSE Auto Zambezi Silver Allisport Fast Road Intercooler, V8 Brakes, Silicone IC Hoses, EGRs Blanked, Remapped, De-Cat pipe, FBHIC

I tried NFU when we purchased our Discovery, but despite living in Cornwall, one road away from farmland and open fields our location wasn't rural enough for them!Andy

just had the same letter from NFU as LFW. like him I quit them three years ago when they upped their cost from £350 to £850. Their new pricing regime is once again competitive. It's a shame it's taken them three years to work that out.Never take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

Interesting to know. Being a farmer and I considered land rovers of any guise to be bread and butter policies for them I gave up on all insurances with them years back as very uncompetitive. As has been stated many times in everything from Sky to aa and rac etc etc current loyal users/customers get no discounts etc just new clients.....Will try give them another chance in 11 months time!

I have just taken out NFU cover on my D4, £425 and no excess, was £400 with a £250 excess. No brainier. Loads cheaper than the normal companies I would generally of chosen.

I was in the same boat last year, had been with NFU for years and they sent me the renewal and it had gone up again so I shopped around and got insurance for my D4 and mondeo for nearly half the cost of NFU so naturally I changed . I will say this though they had given good service and I would happily go back to them if they compere on price.

Had NFU for the house insurance (outbuildings etc included) This year the policy jumped to close to £1k/year as I had come to the end of the 5 year low quote period! I did not renew with them.
I found their premiums for the Defender and D3 to be 3 or 4 times as much as elsewhere, they wanted £180 for my IH 434 (vs £45 from Walter Midgley) inc Road use, TPFT, implements etc...
So basically I have Written NFU off after 12 odd years... Shame. But perhaps they are trying to address the premium issues now to re-gain some business to cover their TV adverts....1 TR6 Rusting away quietly

Hi,
had a letter from NFU to quote for house insurance as due about now and have asked them in the past.
Rang for a quite and 1/4 hour later told that our postcode did not come "into scope" for giving a quote
told them not to bother sending a letter to our address then

NFU
I had the same with NFU 3yrs. ago on my Mitsi L200, upped the policy by 55%, why? Anyway changed to Adrian Flux for last 2 yrs. but their cost was too expensive so went to A plan, brilliant, same cover with Aviva, half the price, very knowledgeable and easy to deal with. Hopefully they will be in touch about Disco very soon.
