Nextbase Dashcam
I am looking at getting Halfords to install a Nextbase 412GW dashcam.
Anybody got any experience of Halfords and their general capabilities?
I'm assuming that running cabling for a dashcam isn't too taxing and within the capabilities of most technicians. I just hope they don't damage any trim putting it in.
Any general advice or tips appreciated. Likewise if anyone has any experience of the Nextbase 412GW that would also be appreciated.
Thanks!

No experience of Halfords, but it's dead easy, it's just one bolt to undo the A pillar trim and then one screw to loosen the headlining, the hardest part is working out which fuse to piggy back off.
I installed road angel myself all set for several hours of messing around with trim, etc. Took me 10m to run the cable and 10m to wire it up.Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders
As my then seventeen year old son said at the time when he wanted to upgrade the radio in his Mini, he had no experience of what was involved, after a visit to the local Halfrauds and speaking with the staff, in his words, "it can't be difficult if they can fit it it anyone could do it" he did himself.
There is a guide on here to do it, easy job.

I fitted mine, gently prised the headliner and slipped the cable in, all along the roof, down the A Pillar trim and through side of lower glove box and into the left hand side 12v socket
here an old pic of it mounted:

I can take pics of the wire etc later if you like Iggy/Ieuan

Lol ive got the Nextbase 412 in my disco and used to work for Halfords (20 years ago I might add)
Funny enough actually went to Halfords yesterday and TBH wasn't impressed by the knowledge levels so wouldn't let them touch my baby.
Fitting is extremely easy - all you need to buy is the piggy back fuse kit. You need the mini one.
On the wiring loom there is some form of magnetic resistor in plastic cylindrical unit, that needs to be moved from the camera plug end to the fuse box end. Purely because it wont go under the roof lining - easily opened and snaps shut.
Then
Mount the camera using the suction cup behind the passenger side of the mirror
Connect the wire to the unit giving enough length to run to the roof
Run the wire under the roof lining to the pillar
Run the wire around the pillar to the door rubber trim
Run down the door runner trim avoiding the airbags
Open the glove box to find the hidden fuse box
Undo the side protection panel
Run the wire through the now exposed hole
Bolt the ground to the bulkhead
Find fuse 63 I think as non permanent live
Take up the slack and cable tie
Refit protection panel and tidy
Been fitted in the car for a while and never been taken out so cant help you with the IT stuff im afraid

I think I'll get one of these. The nextbase 412gw is a slight step up from the 312 which is voted best buy on the Which website. Hopefully that means it's better. I'll get Halfords to fit only because I'll be sitting on the guys shoulder as he does it and the price is little more than the fitting kit.FFRR 2017 4.4SDV8 Autobiography. Cost so much I must be mad!

Halfords fitted my Nextbase 312 and did a great job. Its a really good camera and the quality of the fitting is beyond reproach. It's a great camera I would highly recommend them and it. New Defender L663 110 SE (known as Noddy!)

Just something to be aware of (although I am sure this won't be a problem for most, but it caught me out), the Nextbase cameras take a maximum of a 32GB micro SD card.
I use it not only for the obvious, but because the software is excellent at recording your journeys and giving you the overview (map plots, time and mileage), I also use it for my mileage claims on business trips. I've now lowered the quality on the camera to 720p in order to get more footage on the card, but it still will only cater for around 6 hours.
As I say a very minor point for most, but I spent a lot of time trying to hack a larger card to work, and then ended up just needing to manage the download of files more frequently after each leg of any lengthy trip.
Am think I'd be better off installing a tracking device to report in as it'll give me some other benefits too.

I have the nextbase dashcam fitted but the problem I have is that when the windscreen
gets hot on a sunny day, the suction cup fails and the camera falls and hangs!
Not sure if there is a better way to get the suction cup to stay stuck on the window?

I have a Nextbase 412GW fitted in the Basingstoke Halfords using the Nextbase piggy back fuse method. They did a great job. The video viewing on the App via your phone etc is not great. It hangs and errors etc but the converter is good for SD card readers etc.
Also the first thing to do when you go into the menu's is change it from 1440p which is only 30fps (frames per second) down to 1080p 60fps. It won't make too much difference in the day but at night it's much better. This advice was taken from other forums.
Other than that I'm happy with mine.2008 XS Java Black

Well … I thought I was either lucky and they'd revised the limit OR was just getting away with being a smart ar$e, but I've had a 64GB card in mine since I got it earlier this year. Did it as it was a spare laying about but as it worked, just left it in place.
However, over the weekend the suction cup gave up in the hot weather and it dropped down in to view and had the message "SD card full".
I'd assumed that the "medium" setting on the bump sensitivity meant I'd filled it up with the short bursts it does every time I open or shut the doors but wasn't the case/ it had only 5GB protected, rest were "ordinary" BUT it hasn't recorded anything since 18th April.
I'm going to format it and see if it happens again.
