I've a 2011MY SDV6 so don't have the dipstick just the oil-extraction tube (?)
Now, question is, does this tube actually go to the bottom of the sump to extract oil from (just attach suction to the top) or is it just a guide for an extraction tube to go down into.
Also, anyone recommend a vacuum unit to remove the oil.
Sorry, still used to a good old-fashioned sump plug and oil running up my arm Morris Dancers: Drinkers with A Dance Problem

The tube does draw from the bottom.
There is still a sump plug if you want to use that.

Hi, I use a 6 litre Pela oil extractor. The bespoke oil tube is a godsend (unless you prefer crawling under a car and getting hot oil on your hand). If the oil filter is the same as the MY13 you will need to find a round 'tool' to push into the middle tube to release the 4 clips. good luck
Found a Pela unit on the Bay so might look at getting one in the new year.Morris Dancers: Drinkers with A Dance Problem

Roy,
I've just done an oil change and have some more tips. I have a 6.5 litre Pela. It's a bit awkward to find a spot to sit the Pela as the tube isn't that long. I put it on a chair next to the side front. I sucked out 5.25 litres or thereabouts. I used an 11/4" socket to remove the oil filter housing. When you remove the housing it contains the oil filter. To remove the element I used a piece of plastic pipe that had an internal diameter of 25mm to slide inside the centre housing. so you'll have to find something that fits. Push onto the clips and use a screwdriver to lever the filter out. Push the new filter firmly on and remember to replace the 'O' ring and oil it.

I use one of these (available on th ebay)
Mannesmann Oil Extractor Pump <> 12V <> Siphon Pump <> 5 AMP DC Motor <> GS TUV
Only use it every other change though, conventional sump draw for the other.

Guys,
See below from LR, I copied this post from elsewhere on the site. You have to transfer the black plastic cage from inside the old filter to the new one, apparently people have been throwing it out with the old filter.
I had to transfer it on my 2011 RRS last oil change and if you don't know you will throw it out with the old filter paper insert!
I also use a Pela to suck out the oil but made up an adapter to fit onto the drain tube.
I think that the filter design for the 3 litre has changed from the 2.7 litre causing confusion.
I hope this helps.
Regards
Barry

Title 3.0 TDV6 Oil Filter Cap Centre Support
Category Engine
Last modified 17-Oct-2012 00:00:00
Symptom 499000 Basic Engine
Content Issue:
The oil filter centre support which is fitted internal to the oil filter cap housing is inadvertently being discarded during a routine Service when the oil filter element is replaced on 3.0 TDV6 engine derivatives.
Action:
After the filter element is replaced please check the oil filter cap housing and ensure the centre support is retained in place before refitting the cap assembly. Failure to ensure the centre support is in place reduces the clamp height of the element which can potentially affect the closure of the internal drain valve. This could lead to an oil leak resulting in excessive exhaust smoke.
For reference the current part number of the oil filter element is LR013148 and the oil filter cover cap part number is LR013147. Please always refer to Microcat for up to date part number information.2017 Range Rover Sport TDV6 L494 Fuji White

thanks for that barryp. The 2 times I've done the filter change the cage has stayed in the housing. Maybe it's the 'tool' I'm using to help extract the paper element is holding it in place?
