Newbie: Looking for buddy for Dorset green lane |
|
Hi,
I've just bought a Discovery 4 and found a BOAT near Corfe Castle in Dorset. However given an almost complete lack of experience, I decided against being the guy that the local farmer has to tow out with his tractor and thought I'd wait to tag along with some people who know a bit more about what they are doing. I have a mate with a FFRR but he doesn't want to get any scratches on it!
I'm looking into a LandRover Experience Day but what are the other options for getting introduced to some gentle routes? Any local groups in Dorset?
Ian.
PS. I also don't want to get any scratches on it, but this lane looks pretty easy on Google Maps.

Don't go out alone especially if you don't know the legality of unsurfaced roads
Join Dorset Land Rover Club and go laning with them
Some BOATs have TROs so not legal to drive. You could end having the car crushed
ORPAs - same story.
Much better to join a local club and learn the ropes Visitor from fullfatrr.com

Also check your insurance that you are covered for off road driving and green lanes.

Yes.... Oh yes. It took a lot of work to get the last 200 yards opened up after years of confusion and a dubious TRO. I drive it half a dozen times a year, but NOT in the Disco. It would absolutely tear the panels off.

Lots of useful info thanks. I'm glad I didn't try it as it sounds like it gets a lot thornier in the middle than my quick explore on foot at either end.
I'll have a look a the links provided and sign up with the local Dorset lot.
Cheers!

If you join GLASS and then contact the Dorset rep he might have some time to show you around....
I'm going to hook up with him next time I'm in Purbeck Visitor from fullfatrr.com
