Newbie - buying new Maf sensor - where to buy

Hi, recent owner of disco 4 landmark le 2011 3.0sdv6

Had the dreaded restricted performance light, took to local indie looked at map which was filthy so updated that and off I went, next day same issue, now the garage are super busy hence why they could only have a quick look so I went online and the advice is to check the maf sensor which I did and the nearest one to the front is pretty dirty, also had a look for cracked manafold as did the garage and looks ok on first inspection.

So garage is super busy and to save some pennies and as it’s looking like the likely culprit I’m going to buy a new one.

So can I ask where would be the best place to buy one, do I go oem or would some one like europarts be a good bet? They have some for around £90, does that sound worth while ?

Any advice very welcome please, as it’s horrid to drive now.

Advanced Factors or speak to Dan at Duckworths. You'll find them both in sponsors links Thumbs Up

However, you can swap them around to see if it is defective. I suspect it will end up being the inlet manifold. Get a smoke test done. Thumbs Up

Try Woody. See if he can help diagnose it.

Comes on pretty much as soon as you encounter a hill or gradient. As I said local indi rudkins had a quick look and the map sensor was filthy so seemed to logical first and quick fix but unfortunately it wasn’t that altho judging by the state of it is wouldn’t have been long before it did cause an issue.

So after scanning the web another quick fix is the maf sensor. As it’s easy for me to investigate that’s what I did and the one nearest the bonnet has a lot of carbon on it, so I’m guessing that the next quick fix and again if it isn’t it probably will be at some point as I’m told they are supposed to be super clean.

The quick option is to buy some air flow sensor cleaner but from what I’ve read this will probably only last for a small amount of time as the sensor is probably on its way out so I. Thinking let’s bite the bullet and just replace it.

If it’s not that then back to rudkins it goes and they can investigate further.

Sounds like mine. I had restricted performance and AA did code read and cleaned MAF. All good until hit a hill or accelerated then restricted performance again. Turns out it was split manifold, a known issue but I did the same looking at internet and thought it was MAF.

It’s a gamble getting a new maf but when I took it off it’s definitely dirty so as a first go myself I think i’ll Replace it then the next likely culprit I suspect is a possible cracked manifold.

I saw an excellent video on PowerfulukLtd on testing and fixing MAF . I recall it involves switching them to see if the problem moves with it. Link below if it helps. Good luck

Cheers

Here are some pics of the maf this is the one nearest the front end. To me I’m thinking it should be clean and not covered in carbon?

Could this be the restricted power issue?

Check the manifold and as far as I can see with the naked eye no cracks but a smoke test would be the next step if the above doesn’t work.

Hi, seen the same video but I don’t have the computer tool for diagnostic altho after buying this I’m thinking of getting one, been in the garage every month for last 3 months and only had it 3 months....I need deeper pockets. Thing is I bought it with full history mostly lr garage and al, the stamps etc. Just unlucky so far I think

Why don't you do what others have said, contact Woody32 and get it checked and fixed instead of throwing parts at it? Will be cheaper in the long run.

Sent a pm to woody - looking at getting it checked out but indi booked up till next week so was hoping I might be able to diagnose and fix myself. Looking at the maf sensor it’s on its last legs anyway so if it’s not an issue now it will be in the future so it wouldn’t be wasted money in the long run

Have you tried cleaning it? It doesn't look that bad.
