Reminds me of a flying squad call - got hit on the back of the head by an airbag when fireman sam cut through the loom, as he couldn't get to the battery
Loud bang, and it all went really dark - thought the car had been involved in a second RTA and that the collision had sent me blind - all was well, when one of the paramedics pulled my helmet back off my face "To finish first, one first has to finish ...."
Fitted mine today bit fiddly at first but thanks to tips job is oxo Googsy

Still trying to get hold of the right tools before I attempt to change the steering wheel. Can someone tell me what size socket I need to remove the single nut that attaches the steering wheel to the steering column.
Also do I need any torx screwdrivers & if so what size?
Thanks

Zen,
Can't remember whether it is a 22 or 24mm nut for the steering wheel. You do need torx bits I think it was just T25 size that was needed. They are used on the back of the wheel for holding the electrics to it and for holding the centre weight.
Get thee to Halfrauds I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

What to do now?
I just replaced my steering wheel with a new smooth one… very slick!
But now I need suggestions for what to do with my old sticky wheel core. Who would want it and is it worth anything?

Just changed my steering wheel as per the instructions in this post. Very straight forward but only thanks to all the excellent pictures and words of advice from those who have gone before. So again thank you all. Plus a big thank you for Nick @ Yeovil for your great friendly service.
I think it is a shame that Land rover don't think the leather on their steering wheels wearing out before the original tyres is a shocking indictment of the quality or lack there'of of their products.
