New SDV6 engine - Lower MPG?

I've just had the SDV6 in my 2016 D4 replaced (crank problem, fortunately JLR stumped up 90% of the cost). Work was done by franchise and engine was a reman from JLR.

The new engine is returning 3-4 MPG lower than the old one. Is that to be expected on a new engine before it beds in?

would have thought it was the tight engine...may use a bit of oil 2..in the old days you would benefit from changing oil after first 1000 miles...the main thing it lives on,,,,many dont when crank goes phook.
what was mileage when failed....we have 2016 so concerned

Thanks, suspected that was the case. Was planning an oil change at 1000 and 5000 anyway as I'm keeping the vehicle so looking after it!

Crank failures are a lottery. Many don't go, when this happened it went from no sign of a problem, through an increased roughness which felt like an injector missing, to seized in under 20 miles.

Mine went at 60k, had FSH from main dealer and local (top-end) indie, JLR goodwill paid 90% so if it does go talk to your local franchise about a goodwill application. They had hoped for 100% given age/mileage, clear JLR don't want bad press and are helping customers out.

Had 100% on mine at 67k miles ,however was full JLR service history . Just out of interest what was the total as it seems this is variable as well mine was in excess of 13k with two new turbos. They showed me invoice they had forwarded to JLR. mine has done 3k now and used zero oil.

Sadly it is a lot more common than it should ever be ,out of interest though they are better than the Ingenium ,which from the number I have heard of from friends has become a service item as most of them are diagnosed at service

Total was 15k, paperwork was 5 pages, lots of bits replaced!

Mine was the shells, caused metal filings in the oil which is what seized it up.

surprised as that issue was sorted a while ago. In a tight engine number range( some half wits at Dagenham fitted them the wrong way round) . snapped crank is more common that fills the filter with swarf as well

I was under the impression the spinning crank shells syndrome had been cured in later D4s(>MY14) Shocked
It takes around 500 miles for the pistons and rings to get fully polished and the engine to perform at its best, it may also use a little oil in this period. Thumbs Up
