New SatNav DVD YIW500250! |
|
Hi all,
I've just got an email from Nick at Yeovil Land Rover to say that the newest Europe satnav DVD has just been released! Part number is YIW500250.
Nick is selling it for £106.97 to D3 members.
I'm not sure if he actually has these in stock yet, but I've asked him to reserve one for me, and I'll call him in the morning to find out the full story (too late this evening to call).
This DVD should provide full coverage of Ireland, filling in rural roads in the West, and some gaps in the M50, N11, M1, and the M4.
I will be reporting back with the full details once I've got mine.

Well, good and bad news I'm afraid.
Bad news first;
Nick very kindly agreed to put one of these new DVDs into his D3 so I could get him to check the map changes in Ireland before I bought one.
It appears as if there are no changes at all in the Irish maps on this new DVD. Only half the country has street level detail in the countryside, and important changes like the new section of the M50 are not present - it seems to be exactly the same as YIW500200. The dates of files on the DVD seem to be similar or the same to the old one as well, which has led to both of us wondering why would LR release a new DVD with the same data as the old one. The version.txt file is exactly the same.
So, Nick is going to contact LR and try to find out what exactly has changed, if anything, in the new one.
The good news is that it is available now, though I'm not going to bother getting it unless there is any definate changes.
Sorry about getting everyones hopes up (I see this generated a huge amount of interest lol! ). IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

Nick made some enquiries and YIW500250 does have the exact same maps as YIW500200 (Q3 05). The only difference is a software update of some kind.
The good news is that there will be a new DVD with the new Q3 06 maps released at the end of May, so hopefully we'll be able to get it in just over a month. Nick will be keeping an eye out for it. IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

It would be very nice if the M50 extension and the smaller road to the north and west of Mullingar were properly covered. Navteq has them mapped, so let's hope.

Well they've confirmed that the new DVD, hopefully out by the end of the May, will have the Q3 2006 maps, which definatly have everything. Q1 2006 was the first release with all of Ireland and did have M50, M1 Dundalk, M4, etc.
Q3 should have even more stuff - e.g. Waterford outer ring road (opened in 2005) isn't in Q1, so it'd be nice if it was in Q3.
I wonder how many years we'll have to wait for the N11 Gorey bypass opening in July this year lol! IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver

I'm assuming the bypass is actually mapped on your satnav? Sometimes the LR satnav has been known to make wierd route choices. If it has the choice of 2 A roads, one of which is shorter, it'll probably take the shorter one, even though the bypass (the other A road in this example) will be quicker, but longer in distance normally.
Have you tried the '3 routes' option when entering the destination to see if it gives you an option to use the bypass. Alternatively, you could tell it to avoid a point on the road it normally takes you, possibly forcing it to use the bypass. IE - 05 D3 TDV6 HSE - Zambezi Silver
