I’ve just brought 20 ltrs of Gulf 5w30 for a routine service. Not had this brand before.
When I poured it into my jug it came out more like water than oil. Bit of a surprise – the thickness is very very different to all the brands I’ve used before and caught me out. Now that I've cleaned up should I be worried? Or is normal?

Hi,
5/30 oil is much thinner than the old 20/50 of olden times, some time ago i asked the question if it was worth warming the engine to drain the oil like we used to, and I think the general thought was no. Thumbs Up

Andi.

Have you "brought" it from a reputable supplier at a practical price and was the container sealed?- anything of value can and will be copied today including oil, go out and buy a one litre bottle of the same oil and compare :thumbs up:
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

5W30 is much closer to water than the thick oils of yesteryear.

As long as it fully does the lubrication job thinner oil is better than thicker surely less strain on engine parts.

Hi Gents
I owe you all an apology. The new gulf oil left the shop and travelled next to the heater in the cab.
The original container was at outside temperature. Hence the difference. School boy error.
My wife says I’m an idiot. My mum says I’m special.
Sorry
Sorry Gulf
Can this thread vanish please? Whistle
