New MOT rules and Blanking EGR’s

Assuming during the MOT it ain’t obvious that it has been blanked is this likely to now be picked up during the new MOT rules ?

Thanks jk

If it is not obvious (blanking plates, not removal kit) and it passes its smoke test, then it’s a pass Thumbs Up

I was wrong on this one, I had thought the changes would catch more emissions cheating than it looks like it’s going to. Apart from failing on the rather vague “evidence of tampering with the DPF”, does the new test really have any more teeth than the old one?

Keep it for another 27 years, Ray, and be free of the MOT curse for ever.

ANY visible smoke from a DPF vehicle is an automatic fail, whereas before, it had to be under the 1.5 limit

Going to be a lot of Censored off 2nd hand car buyers/traders, facing an expensive DPF refit...

No amount of pistons rings will cure a deleted DPF Wink

The emissions (gas analyser) test is unaltered for diesels.

The vehicle will fail if there is visual evidence that the EGR's have been blanked (so leave the plumbing in) or there is visual evidence that the DPF (where fitted, so post Euro 4 Discos) has been tampered with (unless evidence can be provided at the time of the test that the work related to repair or replacement) or removed. The smoke test affects DPF fitted vehicles only. If there is smoke under test conditions (so not if you've just started it up, for example) then it is a fail.

The paradox is that EGR's were originally fitted to reduce nitrous oxide emissions (which they do very badly). In the process they produce soot, hence the need for a DPF. Soot = particulants, so there is an argument that older Discos without a DPF and the EGR's blanked are as clean if not cleaner than newer ones.

There is no emissions test for N2O, hence only the visual test for EGR's.

On my 56 plate D3, I have the EGR removal kit installed. I still have all the associated pipe work. So how do I replace the pipework with a "blanking" plate? Is this a new type of blanking plate to be used, and if so where do I buy such an item?

Idea Longer bolts? (not sure if originals are long enough to go through pipework flange and blanking plate Rolling Eyes )
