On my 56 plate D3, I have the EGR removal kit installed. I still have all the associated pipe work. So how do I replace the pipework with a "blanking" plate? Is this a new type of blanking plate to be used, and if so where do I buy such an item?

Remove the top blanking plates and install the pipework underneath the engine cover Thumbs Up

hear under the new rules they can also remove engine covers , however haven’t heard if that’s 100% accurate

when i done my blank , i put some 3mm blanking plates between the EGR pipes and engine block , reusing the same bolts

will be interesting to hear if blanked egrs are indeed being failed and from what years as i see DPF have been mentioned and mine isn’t fitted with one

Do all LEDs have to be removed under the new rules?

if anyones hasn't looked at the new rules...

In my eyes - if they can cannot see it, they cannot test it.

I had my other car tested on Friday and had a chat with the tester.

He seems very laxed about the whole thing, I explained that I was most worried about my 200TDI Defender having visual smoke.. He said in a typical old mechanic voice 'ahhh well, you know, it still comes down to the discretion of the tester, just bring it here'.

So my advice would be, avoid the main dealers/ large garages, have it tested in a small village garage with an 'old boy' doing it and you'll pass fine.

The fact he drives a D3 and is rebuilding a series 3 might help Thumbs Up

New mot is more about aligning with EU. I would not be panicking about things yet. Yes the egr decat and things are being pushed as new but in real world most of these were already a fail.

It will be a case wait and see now that the regs have changed.

But don’t think much will change if you have a car in good shape.

The tester cannot remove an engine cover.

As has been said, if it can't be readily seen then it can't be tested.

No, not headlights, I’ve got LED sidelights and Fog lights. Don’t know whether to change them before MOT test.

The rule here (and I assume this is from some more or less obscure EU or UNECE regulation) is that you must replace with like for like. If you have a halogen bulb it must be replaced with a similar one.

A LED light is never approved as a direct replacement even if it a. had a type approval for on-road use, b. would otherwise fit. LEDs can only be used if the whole light module is designed for them and have received type approval.

Whether anybody in UK cares about this I can’t say, here they’re quite fascist with compliance.

Mines passed the last 3 MOT tests with them in, I’m just unsure under the new guidelines.

My volvo toy had its MOT last week

Passed with LED side lights, and LED marker lights (orange on the sides of the head lamps)

Disco due on the 8th and has the same LEDs in there so will report back.
